Re: Question about Music Man Rd50 Cap mods
Stevem, thx for the hookup on the 6bg6, I have boxes of them from the tube caddies I bought on ebay:) TV sweep tubes:)) I concur on the MM amps running the output tubes to death, my 65 watt had 6ca7's and ran them ragged. Very reliable clean amp, sounded great with a boss od1 in front playing punk r...

Re: carbon comp plate resistors
I know:) I'm a jerk for dissing people that pay 3.00us for an inferior version of a .05us component:) Spend that money on a quality speaker or transformer!! Or hardware, something that actually makes your amp better. Not hipster electronic components! Use 1 watt CF in the preamp for low noise and MF...

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
I didn't realize the physical layout was so different. Good to know, i went back and reread your posts on that. Those old Mullards always seem to be microphonic to a degree. They all read a hair lower than bogey on my tube tester, even the NOS or lightly used ones I sometimes find. Around 1100or 115...

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
I have a very nice original one. I notice that the wiring on yours is bodged. One thing I noticed when looking inside my amp is that the preamp and tone control wiring is layed out very carefully with wires separated and crossed at 90 deg angles. It is so deliberate that it must be intentional. I'm ...

Re: carbon comp plate resistors
Carbon comp resistors=noise. Changes in tone after replacing them = cold solder joints, dirty 50 yr old component leads, your AC kicked on and dropped your house AC by 5 volts. If you haven't tested it, 5 volts difference in ac supply change makes a noticeable difference in tone. I defy anyone to be...

Re: Merlin B's new book on tube amp power supplies
I think it is an excellent design reference if you actually want to design something different than the standard series resistance power supplies. You can just copy an existing Fender or Marshall PS and be good to go there. There is quite a lot of discussion about series and shunt regulation, lots o...

Re: sozo premiums in
You should put a couple of different NEW coupling cap types of the same value on a rotary switch and wire it in temporarily. Even a "spawn of satan" ceramic disk. Have someone else turn the switch while you listen. See if you can hear the marketing BS. "Burning in" coupling caps? The changes in line...
