Re: PCB SIL sockets - will these be suitable for a tube amp board.
hi, I think those are probably ok for SIP (single in-line package) op amps or lower voltage caps and lower wattage resistors (with thinner lead diameters), but for higher voltage caps used in tube amps, they could be too small. I would look for ones with the appropriate diameter for the part leads t...

Re: What Exactly Happens When You Pull Two Output Tubes On the Same Side In A Plexi ?
(sorry, not super hard core, but bit of a VH nerd here) found this (from 15 years ago (in 2010)--seems a bit more possible evidence that pulling (one or possibly two) tubes was actually done) : Bill New 15 years ago I saw Van Halen play in front of the book store at Glendale College around 1975. Aft...

Re: What Exactly Happens When You Pull Two Output Tubes On the Same Side In A Plexi ?
Asking based on two things I've experienced.. first was a guy who went by VHoholic on the old MetroAmp forum who used to run a Marshall 1959 circuit with only one 6CA7 output tube installed, and more recently Jim Gaustad has said he runs his custom-built EVH spec amp with V4 &V5 pulled. I've always...

Re: Looking for this tool
FWIW there's a goot (brand--Taiyo Electric Industries) YP-201AS that shows up on Google searches (here in Japan) which appears similar (same?) : https://en.goot.jp/storage/images/products/1618886757ktRQuS7njrlw48iZg6IkAs_l.jpeg https://en.goot.jp/products/detail/yp_201as Also, this one showed up via...

Re: Tube amp grounding article/info/links
Hi all, FWIW I updated to fill in the missing diagrams (tried to link but for some reason that didn't work so had to upload them). Been meaning to do this--sorry it took so long! Hopefully the article makes more sense. Sadly Mr. Kimura passed away sometime last year from ALS (otherwise known as Moto...

Re: ARS vs F+T
this is the thread I remembered finding some of the info for the caps on: http://music-electronics-forum.com/t25109/ (sorry, I seem to have mis-remembered some of the details! i.e. *TMC* instead of TTC, and so on) re: whether F&T are actually good, kind of hard to say. Could be that some were bad "o...

Re: ARS vs F+T
(as I vaugely remember) the "ARS" are made in China (by TTC?" and seem to be low cost (and presumably very low cost in quantity which I'd guess is why you see them in production amps). The longevity spec. was average (85deg C 1000 hours?) for the Chinese "ARS" and much longer for the F&T (85deg C 50...

Re: GREAT Guitar Electronics Info
I liked the tone cap and pickup loading videos but the intonation related ones as well. (I didn't get all of it, but) it was easy to follow. Thanks again.

Re: JTM45 Build
(perhaps not everyone, but) I think sometimes people who are disappointed with a JTM45 build really want the brighter, more aggressive 1987/1959 circuit (split cathodes, 33k slope R, etc.) instead.

Re: Dummy load/silent recording - Output Transformer ringing?
trying to use a higher DC load to emulate(/make a simplified equivalent of) the higher average AC load of an actual spk. makes sense but as martin said, a 30 ohm R for 8 ohm tap seems way too high (not that I've done the math). My understanding was somewhere around 11 ohms (-ish) R for 8 ohm tap is ...

the (green, blue, etc.) stuff in some Japanese equipment (Roland, etc.) AFAIK is Threebond anaerobic sealant (I'm sure there must be equivalent products from other makers like Locktite or whomever as well) : http://www.threebond.co.jp/en/product/series/adhesives/s_a1300.html IIRC there were differen...

Re: EL34 identification help
I'd say RFT. There is a Russian one (EL34G IIRC) that looks similar but the staples in the plate look sloppier. I wouldn't necessarily take the country of manf. markings seriously. Maybe some incorrectly marked ones were legit (to get around export controls or whatever), but they aren't always true....
