Re: Diode clipping
I had a JTM 60 and I thought it had great tone.....but I never cranked the gain past 6....not into buzz saw distortion.....I like the sound of that power amp working....Whats better snubber resisters or diodes........Probably diodes......but I'd be curious about opinions from high gain amp builders.

Re: DIY Airbrake...
I had to have Mouser send me another Lorlin switch.....I got the wrong part......I had no record to check back to see if it was my mistake or thier's, being I didn't log in when I made the order......I called them and they sent me the replacement switch free of charge.....So props to Mouser---very d...

Re: Airbrake & EL-84's
Heres some comments I recieved via e-mail from a DR-Z rep "You can run it safely at 4, 8, or 16 ohms. Running an 8 ohm speaker out with a 16 ohm cab will allow the amp to operate cooler. You will lose some low end though. If running an 8 ohm cab always use the 8 ohm speaker out with any amp. You can...

He talks about Ken's help with his dr.z amp and amps thru his career. Quite a few inte...

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Hey Noel. Excuse my ignorance but what is that fancy connector going into the top of your Airbrake.....Is that AC power for your fan or a fancy Input/ouput.....I used to work for the Navy and it looks like something I might of seen on a ship! The connector partially seen and cover) I have a couple o...

Re: DIY Airbrake...
No worries on the Lorlin switch. Hell, Kenny used them in his later amps. If money is no object, always go for the Goldhill rotary switches! I like their tiny rotary switches in guitars and F/X pedals. NASA likes 'em too. The in between priced mfg. would probably be the current Electroswitch models...

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Finally building my Airbrake! Built my chassis box today, getting feet at the local electronics store tommorow, awaiting parts from Mouser and Allied. I'm stoked! The one You Tube sample I could find sounded good but I didn't think the guy did the best job demonstrating it. How are those Lorlin swit...

Re: Any heat sink recommendations?
I haven't built mine yet, but it seems that a heat sink would be a good idea. Maybe a fan as well. My HotPlate has both. Anyway, I looked in the Mouser catalogue a bit and didn't really find any large heat sinks. The chassis is 9x5x2, so the heat sink could be up to 9x2. Also, Lorlin switches are r...

Re: The Beach Boys (Carl Wilson) Dumble Amp
I spoke to Rick at Guitar maniacs in Tacoma today and he said he sold #5 Dumble to John Mayer---it belonged to Brian Wilson--same amp?
