It is not a regulator in any sense. It is a capacitance multiplier.

"Dynamic regulator"?? Did you make that up on the fly? Please do tell how you define this concept.

Re: Clamping diodes on OT primary?

gingertube, along these lines look at the schem for a Fender Bassman AB165. Note the 220K resistors that seem out of place, surely the origin of the 330K resistors. It seems to work, or at least let me say that I don't seem to get the artifacts I get with the diodes. I won't use the diodes anymore....

Not a regulator

This is not a regulator, it is a capacitance multiplier. A capacitance multiplier has no regulation. On the original web site, http://www.pmillett.com/dcpp.htm there is a proper regulator for the screens, named "G2 regulator". Then there's this filter, which is a capacitance multiplier, named "B+ ri...

Re: Clone Orange Retro 50

The ground connection on the IEC connector is fixed to one of the IEC connector screws.

Also the ground wire from the IEC connector is the shortest one running from the connector.

Dangerous, and also a code violation.

Re: Layout critique?

1. Is the short distance between the OT and the power tubes (I measure 1 inch of space between them) going to be a problem? and 2. Will the reverb tank (which I'll ground the tank chassis of course) pick up any noise from bring mounted above the preamp tubes? 1. is absolutely no problem. The power ...

Re: Oscilloscopes for amp building...

Just get a cheap 1X/10X probe from China. Mine are rated CAT II 150V AC at 1X and CAT II 300V AC at 10X. This means the probes have been tested and found ok at impulse voltages of 2500V on the 10X setting. If that isn't good enough you could always make a voltage divider to go higher. For a scope, t...

Re: Ground Lift

Mains ground is a safety feature, while signal/audio ground only is a reference for the audio signal. If you lift mains ground you are doing it wrong. Electrical faults that find their way to the chassis will head towards ground in the wrong direction, through the instrument cable and in the users d...

Measure voltages to ground AC and DC on all pins on all tubes with no signal in and post here.

Re: can anyone explain this to me?

Like stoo sais:  With a PT center tap you can get full wave rectification with only 2 diodes. Without a center tap you need four diodes in a bridge for full wave rectification. If you connect the diodes in a "circle" instead of a bridge you will create blue smoke. In general a bridge ...

Re: Slope resistor switch

If not being able to understand your volume pot analogy right off makes you upset.. Than so be it...I admit it I don't know everything.. I do know this...the amp sitting between Brad Paisley's Trainwreck and Bruno was built by yours truly.. The technically ignorant..so you say.. The volume pot anal...
