I'm still learning but have done a few scratch builds to date now with near 100% success - minus a probably bad to begin with Ebay Grundig SE OT, and cooked a small PT that I got free along the way :roll: :D ... all advice is to read read read and read at all the amp forums like here, hoffman, weber...

If you can it is wise to get checked after a high V encounter from what I have heard- I think it can actually cause muscle tissue damage, but not certain that is why it is advise...have never had more than 120vac myself K.O.W. You can also double up the 20ga for the power tube first section, instead of using the large 16ga. I find solid 18ga difficult enough.

Also I've used white jacket wire and color coded that using large MagicMarkers when coding is helpful.

:lol: Yes to the Erasers! Very necessary. And colored pencils for wiring is nice if you do all hand drawing.

+1 Ideal as a very good meter. Popular with HVAC tech who burn out on Fluke prices. I got a mint true RMS meter at ebay a couple years back for 20-30$ as I recall. Model 61-361. For an amatuer amp and other stuff builder it is good value/accuracy. Possibly a flood of Flukes now at ebay so prices may...

Its easy really. From schematic to layout you need only visualized the actual parts going to the connection points and sketch it out. Start with a simple schematic for practice 5F1 champ or such.
