Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Congrats on getting it done. Higher wattage speakers in my experience don't sound that great until you are putting some power through them. Thanks! You mean a cranked DRRI is not enough to get it going? I mean the original speaker in the DRRI is a 100 watt C12K and that combo sounds really good to ...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Now I've tested it loud and proud in the studio for a week and it really has come in handy there! It's been great and really useful in order to find which amp-speaker-combination that works best for a particular part in the songs. I've (usually) preferred the G12M Heritage when standing in front of ...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

OK - so now it's all soldered and I can't believe I got it right the first time! :) It't looks like shit - I've learnt not to use fat cables like these George L's with the small switches I got for next time - but it works! Tested it carefully with my multimeter and then with my small practice amp th...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

...or maybe the only thing that sets a record is my ignorance?

I'll try to wire it as soon as I get some time on my hands.

Thanks everybody for your input!

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

What I mean, selloutrr, is - if I wire the middle switch like it is shown in the diagram, will the left hand side turned clockwise 90 degrees get the result I describe?

(I take it for granted that we're viewing the switches from behind - i.e. the lugs.)

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Yeah I know how a switch works. Just want to make sure before I solder, so I get it right and don't have to redo it...

Left on the middle switch in this diagram is up ...right?

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

One more thing - which way is "up" on the middle switch, left or right, if I want it to be in standard paralell mode (4 ohm) when the toggle is in the up position, and series/paralell (16 ohm) when engaged (toggle down)?

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Thanks guys! No - none of my amps has a 4 ohm tap, they're all 8- or 16 ohm... Amps are all tube amps: Fender DRRI (which is the only one that can handle a 4 ohm load - if I disconnect the internal speaker) Vox AC15H1TV Marshall 1974X Gibson GA-15RV And looking to buy a Ceriatone 5E3 head Youtube - ...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

You're just jealous  Seriously - I'm going ahead with it anyway. Can't afford/can't be bothered with the hassle of lugging 4 separate 1x12 cabs... And shouldn't I be able to measure it up at the jack before I use it? What would be helpful now is a confirmation that this latest mutation of the ...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Thanks once again! Yes when all switches are off it's an open circuit - but when else? Isn't the danger rather getting a 32 ohm load in series mode if one speaker is on in "group A" (i.e. speaker 1 or 2) and one in "group B" (speaker 3 or 4). If I only use it like this - I should be fine: 1. Paralle...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

selloutrr - help!

Won't this last version just result in a polarity switch - not a switch from parallell to series...?

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Thank you, once again selloutrr! You've really made my life easier!

So that switch will toggle between 4 or 16 ohms when running all 4 speakers?

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

Yes selloutrr it's your diagram from page 1 - thank you so much for your help! Really appreciate the time and effort you've put into this! And I will be testing it rigorously before playing it in order not to damage my amps. (And I don't intend to let anyone else use it unless I'm there.) I've decid...

Re: 4x12 with 4 different speakers?

OK - so now I've bought 5 dpdt switches. Shouldn't I be able to add a switch between speaker 3 and 4 in the diagram that changes the circuit into series? So that when I flick the switch speaker 1 and 2 (which run in parallel) will be hooked up in series with speaker 3 and 4 (which internally also ru...

Is it the DPDT on-on 120 V nominal AC?
