Re: Chassis purchase

I've used the project chassis from Allen Amplification and have been very satisfied with it. Heavy duty construction and predrilled. Reasonable prices for Fender style angled front chassis. http://allenamps.com/minichassis.php

Re: Favorite pentode circuits

Not exactly your typical preamp tube but I've used the 6GH8A in a few amps and really like them, plus they are dirt cheap. :D It is a pentode/triode in one bottle and was mainly used in TV circuits. Here's a link to a few clips of a Voxy kind of amp I used it in, I've got a high gain amp design I us...

Anybody have a schematic for Kustom K-100-1??

I'm trying to get my friends old Kustom K 100 1 going again, but I can't seem to find a print for it anywhere without having to pay for it. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice tone and playing, one of my all time favorite songs. What kind of guitar is that?

Re: Lowering B+ is this method safe ??

Is the 45-50 volts you dropped DC after the recto? Need to measure the voltage drop across the resistor themselves. As long as you don't exceed the 5 watt rating should be "safe", although I would think it would make for a lot of sag from the power supply as full throttle.

Re: new clip from my modded wreck

yep, :D I built the 2x12 and the head cab too. I am extremely happy with how the cab sounds. I had loosely followed the design of a Boogie 2x12 I used to own but I like mine even more than the Boogie, has better midrange definition.
one more gut shot I forgot to post

Re: new clip from my modded wreck

Thanks to all for the kind comments. As requested here's a few pics, she ain't real pretty. Amp is a junkyard dog, built with parts I had in the junk box and a salvaged set of trannys, then was modded several times so the wiring is sloppy in spots, need to tidy up. Still need to make some faceplates...

new clip from my modded wreck

Here's a little clip I threw together this morning, improvised for the most part so don't be too harsh. You can hear some of the rhythm tones toward the end of the song when the distorted guitar comes in. Guitars were recorded with just guitar-cord-amp, a little verb added in the mixdown. Cre...

Re: Nameplates

I believe that BNP Lasers actually does the cutting, Joe just does the design work. He does a first rate buisness, not cheap, but great service.

Re: Noisy Express

I believe thats a MOV, it is there to supress voltage spike on the incoming power. Should be a 130 volt model.

Question for skyboltone--what size and wattage pot do you recommend for the hum balance?

Re: Noisy Express

yes, I was talking about the spring loaded sheilds. You might try tapping on the coupling/tone stack caps with a chopstick while the amp is powered up. I have seen caps be severly microphonic. What happens if you turn the presence up/down while it is howling?

Re: Noisy Express

One thing I forgot to mention, when I first got my express going I was having some issues with a squeel at more than half volume. After much searching and rewireing I installed a sheild on the first 2 preamp tubes and it went away. If you haven't tried them already, might be worth a shot.

Re: Noisy Express

In the first pic it looks like your wireing is different from some of the other express pics I've seen. The others look like the black heater wire should lay flat on the chassis, then the plate lead has a hump bent into it to put some distance between it and the heater as they cross. The grid comes ...

A gainier tone rythm clip

Another short little clip to show the gainier type tones available. settings--gain about 1:00, treble 1:30, mids 10:00, bass 9:30, presence 12:00, PI tail set to 47k position, treble cap 250pf position, parallel switch set to single triode. Ran trough an airbrake cranked all the way down. A little v...
