Re: champ extra gain stage

Thanks for the schematics.

The Class Act schematic is wrong/modified as far as I know. I know David and he sent me the original, he's a good guy.

Re: champ extra gain stage

I don't use master volumes. I feel if the amp has to be turned down then either it's too loud for the place your using it or there is too much gain. I played many years with Fender and Marshall amps from the 60's and early 70's without master volumes. I put the volume on 10, treble on 10 and the bas...

Re: champ extra gain stage

That's the one I have and it does not work well IMO. I am going to remove one channel and use that as a driver between the TS and Power tube.

Re: champ extra gain stage

There really is no need to add another stage to those amps. You can mess with the values and get plenty of gain. It depends on what you want it to do. More gain in what frequency band. What you might want to do is use a different driver tube such as a pentode. I'm working on a 6SL7 into a 6SJ7 into ...

Re: Swamp Thing Amp

I looked at that design if it's the same one I have and my feelings are that it is a flawed design. I only build low wattage SE amps for guitar and I have many variations on that simple design. The one thing I have discovered is that an SE amp needs a driver like a push pull needs a phase inverter. ...

Re: Power supply component values

I'm going to have to read and reread that stuff a few thousand times.

Maybe some of it will sink in.

Re: Power supply component values

Do you have a filter cap before the switch? Even a .1 Orange drop.....just an idea from what other schematics have. Thinking about it makes me wonder. Since it's coming through the speakers which side is the problem, before or after the switch, if that is the problem. Since you are basically shuttin...

Re: Power supply component values

I don't know. I actually like the choke better in the amps I build which right now are only going to be champ type SE low wattage ones. Man, a choke is a pretty cheap little part. I'm sure if you asked on this board a few guys will have one laying around to sell you for the cost of shipping. I guess...

Re: Power supply component values

Hey y'all kind of new here and by no means anything more than a beginner as an amp builder. I have built maybe 20 or so amps and many of them just never worked right, but when i got them right I thought they sounded great, for my style of playing. I consider myself more of a player and do this for a...

Re: This forum - too much attitude lately.

I'm kind of new here but have been a member for a while and have not posted yet. That happens to all forums. It's human nature..... I was on the Weber forums for many years and I will not post there ever again. People are what they are and they need to be policed. When the people who need policing b...

Re: Any experience with EV SRO-12's?

I had a 1969? Fender Twin reverb with those and it was loud and clear but broke up nicely when I turned it up. Good tone too.....

Those speakers are awesome.

Not everybody is going to like them but I did. I am a blues/blues rock and classic rock guitarist.
