Gorgeous!
I nearly plotzed when I saw it... very nice work. That is just about what I have up next to build... a precision power supply 102(except with 4x6v6's). Thanks for the great photos!

Nice Kato! But ya bastid, you now have me wanting to be a tranny winder too! I thought I could stop with design, chassis punching, cab assembly, and board making, but NOOOOO, Kato's gotta put a tranny thread up and entice me into thinking I can do that too! Man, I have nothing but admiration for a g...

Re: First build. need a little help please.
as usual, Phil is 100% correct... but I weighed in a little late. BTW, that little 100 ohm resistor trick is a way to "create" a center tap if there is not one included in the wiring of the transformer. You can check some older tweed schematics and layouts for it in the heater/rectifier filament sup...

New amp builder website up and running
Greetings all! I just wanted to let everyone know about my new website for my amp building and vintage amp restoration and service business known as Ye Olde Tone Shoppe. I've been servicing and restoring vintage guitar amps for nearly 20 years, and have been building them for over 10 years. My amps ...

Re: One board amp
Probably obvious, but I'll offer it anyway! When building a new amp regardless of style, unless doing a true clone, generally we build from outside in, the obvious advantages being you don't have to move a board or major component because you forgot something in the planning/designing process. That ...

Re: Recap check - old fender
oops forgot... I ended up going with some 500V Spragues, but really would have preferred the safety margin of the 600's.

Re: Recap check - old fender
Thanks guys, kinda my thoughts, but you know how those friggin' things go... always the last thing you check  Thanks Tom, I'll recheck sockets. I usually retension all as a 1st round of "things to do" on my list of resto tasks. I may have not done all the preamp ones though, as I usually start...

Re: Recap check - old fender
Hey ange... how ya been? One caveat I ran into: If you use the big blue Sprague Atoms, the 600V 20mF ones, check the dimensions and make sure they will fit under the Fender cap can. I bought some to do a Brown Super myself and when they came in I discovered the posted dimensions didn't correspond to...

Re: HOW TO GET YOUR CHASSIS!!
Yeah, I'm in... hopefully. Brandon, I checked Thursday AM and no post, apparently you mentioned "probably" starting the auction on the old "chassis run" thread Thursday after I checked. Friday, no auction post in the AM, it was put up in the early afternoon I guess, with instructions for the next da...

Re: HOW TO GET YOUR CHASSIS!!
I'm a bit pissed. I too work/gig late, and lo and behold when I checked to see the latest update on when the auction might start, it was over. Jeez Funk, I wish you coulda given more than overnight warning for the start of the auction. I was one of the first to email you and claim a set, so that's w...

Count me in for the full kit 'n kaboodle
Brandon, ... as per my email to you, I'd like a set of the PCBs, Pre Board, and Chassis. I, for one, appreciate fully all your hard work in putting this project together and will gladly pay the $200 or so to get what is, DEFINITELY, a fine starting point to put together what will easily be the crown...

Re: Trainwreck clips
I would be curious to see if the tubes from the amp in clip one would "tame" the amp in clip 2 a bit. That would be a more valid comparison test, but I trust the sweeter, more refined #1 would still be able to be distinguished from the more aggressive #2. But it'd still be a fun test!

bias tool
Kborg, I too use an SRS tool, but use the dual socket version. I bought it after trying to make my own and becoming frustrated with the limited space available in a tube base and socket (besides wasting a perfectly good socket that I could have used to build amps with!). The dual socket one is great...
