Re: best 6l6s for d-style amp

I came out to Boston from Chicago to go to college. I was gigging in a bar when a guy enthusiastically told me he thought I was a "pissah guitah playah." I was a little taken aback because I though i had played pretty well that night. I have since become fluent in New Englandese. Wicked pissah true ...

Re: And this is what the BluesWreck sounds like:

The cab I recorded through is an open band 2-12 with an older (but reconed) greenback and a V30. I mic'ed the V30. It's a sort of knock off on the Buzz Feiten design. I am sure Bryan made tweaks to the circuit and design. I do remember him saying he used his own grounding system. He has been doing t...

Re: And this is what the BluesWreck sounds like:

I'll talk to Bryan - the guy who built it for me - and ask what he did to the circuit. I know it all started with the Express build guide published here on Amp Garage.

He just moved his home/shop so I hope he's set up and ready to go again.

You're not the first person to say that! Dunno why that is . . . less gain? A bluesy player? Open back 2-12 cab? As long as it sounds good, I'm cool with it!

Re: And this is what the BluesWreck sounds like:

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys. Perhaps someday I'll try building an amp an truly join your ranks. As it is now, when I grab a soldering iron, my guitars run in mortal fear. Gotta work on that.

Where? Just down in my basement . . . me playing along with some blues jam track. Sure wish those hot session players lived in my cellar. I'd give 'em free ice cream!

Re: A BluesWreck . . .

Taylor, please give me a "heads up" before the next Dumble or other amp-fest at Jam Spot. I'd really like to attend and hear / play some good gear.

Probably hitting The Tap in Haverhill tonight for their blues jam.

Re: A BluesWreck . . .

Ha! No, don't have a 10 top PRS. However i do have several Hamers which are a 10 (honestly, 11) when it comes to tone, build quality and playability!

Re: A BluesWreck . . .

@AmpMike: I wanted to enhance the figure in the wood as much as possible - like those "10 top" guitars. I read a lot of stuff on the web, and this is what I ended up with: TransTint blue dye, not stain. Stain has solids which will obscure the figure. I thinned the dye with water according to the ins...

@Taylor: Yeah, I'm in Wakefield. I own an ice cream shop right downtown. Open year 'round, I do a lot of practicing guitar in the Winter. Especially last Winter!

A BluesWreck . . .

It all started when I downloaded the Trainwreck build manual and gave it to a friend who builds amps. I though he'd enjoy reading it. A few weeks later he calls me and says "I built one." I head over to his house to try it out. I like it. He sells it to someone. I ask if he might build me one, but w...
