@xtian, old post but going the same route - just cleaned a filmo chassis an try to figure out what to build ... How did you came out with the single tone / single volume configuration ? Did you just delete channel one ? Do you guys think it would be safe to build a 5B6 in there ? with 6v6 and 5y3 .....

I stay on the cold side for the moment and the TAD el34 seem to hold well ...

Received my EL34 from TAD !
Installed it - biased on the low side with plates @ 510 !

Everything is ok!

How do you guys bias these amps ?

I had them lying around for 2 years so maybe one of them got hit ...

Ok ! you guys were right ! bad power tube !!! swapped the two "good" power tubes with the other two "remaining" tubes. after a few seconds, i heard a crackling noise / hiss ... burnt another screen grid resistor. I replaced the dead screen grid resistor, put back the good pair and everything went ba...

yes Martin,

only using 2 tubes out of 4 works ( leaving the faulty socket / resistor unused ) works.
i will try to swap power tubes to make sure one of the 2 other " brand new TAD" is faulty.
