Re: HELP!! strange issue
Did you try your normal value resistors at the tube socket, that could have been it too.

Re: Anyone care to see the DC30 I built for a client?
Oh, here is the DC-30 pic I had found. Just dump a box of parts in! [IMG:720:540]http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n267/BBQLS1/DC30-2.jpg[/img] PTP/terminal strip construction is a work of art, take a closer look they're not just dumped in. The pilot lamps inside the chassis serve two purposes, 1)...

Re: Train Wreck vs Bad Cat
Schematic Heaven has a Hot Cat 30 and Matchless DC 30. The Matchless DC 30 is very close the the Black Cat 30. If an amp has no patent, it is not an original design, it is made up of already existing circuit formulations, period. Anybody got a schematic for a MAZ 18 w/Reverb? Iv'e even bought...

Re: uf values for PS filter caps
Its a balance of a couple of things. The more capacitance the less AC ripple noise, but too much and the amp will sound less musical. Also, the amount of capacitance will play a role in tight or loose bass response. Those are the results of what I have found with my experimenting.

Re: Vintage/relic/cheap/WTF? does anyone go for this crap?
Icetech, its all about "percieved market value". And in my opinion the relicing was started so Fender could sell "blems" without losing any money. What resulted was used "player" guitars escalated in value becoming collectable. And it totally pisses me off. I saw an old Rickenbacher solid state amp ...

Omar, email me. The guy who posted the pics and comments was a well known amp builder. Probably too much lead fumes, I know it makes me silly sometimes. And as Doctor02 said, it was time wasted reading.

Re: WHAT TUBE SOCKETS TO BUY?
If you get them from tubesandmore.com, DO NOT get the P-ST8-209MIP, the pins break very easily. If you use the more expensive P-ST8-485 and experience crackling noises, the clips need tightening.
My 2 cents for ya.

Re: Got sidetracked from Fran copy and built this.
Mark, I have tried Orange drop 716 series, Mallory 150s', and Jensen oil in paper. The Sozo caps do sound better (IMHO), they did have to break in as mentioned on their website (less than a day of playing). They seem pretty transparent, and the amp is not dark at all. With an old Phillips EL34 biase...

Got sidetracked from Fran copy and built this.
I built a little single ended 5F1 based design and did my mechanical layout using knowledge learned from this forum. Also, I wanted to see how Sozo handwound caps sounded (a big thumbs up). Plus, I used a grounding scheme based on principles learned from Paul Rubys post. I ended up with a little amp...

Your Derailment looks great Stephane. I thinking of trying a single El 34 version.

Re: Can you guys hear a difference between solid core wire?
If you tap a piece of stranded wire and a piece of solid core wire against the chassis you can definitely hear a difference, but if you tin the stranded wire it will sound the same when you hit the chassis with it. But, really I have built amps with both and can not hear a difference, but someone li...
