Grounding Sanity Check

Well, I think I searched and covered my basis so I got to throw it out there and see who has better eyes/brain than me. SO built this a while ago, sounds great but always was pretty noisy. I get a low hum, fairly strong, doesn't change with volume. Grounding scheme.... Pot buss>>>grounded at the inp...

Re: My contribution...

Just coming back around...yup the pot fixed it all is good now. Finally got a cab together, my little red devil

Covered in leather, lite the faceplate with LEDs, renamed things to be a bit creative.

Anyway, another cab design idea to feed the pool.

Thx

Re: VVR and Red Plating

Hey just letting everyone know...got it all up and running. Replaced the Mosfet, added a nice heat sink on it, biased it up and away we go.

Thanks for all the help

Re: VVR and Red Plating

Thanks Dana, that was it. Bias tracks but the B+ doesn't.

So as a follow up...Bad tube lead to killing the mosfet..OR..bad mosfet took out the tube?

Is there any change to consider to prevent this from happening again?

Thx

Re: Anybody built a two stroke?

I built a two stroke years ago after I read the same book. I expanded on the design, adding an extra gain stage, tone/gain switches, etc. So, can't really compare to the orginal design but all the same it was a great build, sounds great, tube swapping is fun. Got enough balls for live practice...no ...

VVR and Red Plating

Hey guys, posting over here, cuz I found more folks talking about the VVR... So I built a Metro JTM45 a few years ago. Worked great, no problem. Loud as hell, year later, I installed a VVR (Dana) between the first cap and the choke and between the Bias trim and the 220K resistors. Worked great, no p...

Re: My contribution...

I am waiting on a new pot now. Popped in a 10K resistor in its place just so I can play for a bit. So yes very behaved. Compared to other amps I have or have built the noise level is no issue. Little microphonic but it doesn't take over the amp, great range of tones having the VVR, and cut control i...

Re: My contribution...

Looks to be a bad pot

Ground looks good
Middle tab is 0-30k in the first 20% of the sweep then goes right to 1.4meg for the rest of the range.
Last pin reads 1.4meg ohm

Not sure what I could have done to take out a 2w pot. No sign of solder dripping anywhere
