Just out of interest, I got a similar problem with a Epiphone blues special, it was one of the push on connectors on the left (from the front) speaker. When messing with the black and white speaker wires in my combo, I found that the white speaker wire, in several parts of its almost 12 inch length, was down to only one strand, is this to act as a fuse (2 amps my guess), or a faulty batch of speaker wire.
Check yours!

The important rear covers give a certain amount of its tone, I tried the sound without them on and it wa a bit thin (Basless) sounding.

And luckily enough, the Vox grille fitted "almost" perfectly.

Was the amp a new amp? If it is, I'd be looking for something real basic first. Maybe you have already checked out the simple stuff, remove all the tubes and replace them, pin conections sometimes do resistances. Sorry but we (us humans) do jump in the deep end, I'm guilty too.
