Windsor Studio weak output

Working on a Peavey Windsor Studio that is a customer's. The complaint was the amplifier got weaker and has no headroom. After checking it I was only getting about 3-4 watts into 8 ohms with a good amount of negative clip at that. it had an EL34 in it I replaced and basically had the same results. I...

Re: Bias Drift?

FWIW I have had about six of these Marshals pass through my shop over the last few years with very similar problems. In two or three instances customers brought me their amps with tubes they had already purchased and they happened to be JJ EL34's in these instances I had to replace the 220K grid sto...

Re: Aftermarket pot for Vp Jr Volume Pedal

It would be an audio/log taper. I believe it was actually a type "EJ" designation on the original AB pot... I will have to track it down this weekend. I know Clarostat took over AB's potentiometer line some 20 years ago but I was trying to track down a NOS unit for him. Thanks -Brad

Re: Aftermarket pot for Vp Jr Volume Pedal

Thanks Cliff, I don't think the AB type J will fit without mod's But would be a great choice. I will check this weekend when I get home.

I have also been looking for a 500K type J for a steel player, you don't happen to have any of those?

Aftermarket pot for Vp Jr Volume Pedal

Anyone know of available "upgrade" pots for Ernie Ball Vp Jr ? Specifically the 6180 mono 250K unit. I have two friends that have had these fail just recently...... seems there should be a good "sealed" upgrade pot available but I have found no direct replacements available. Appreciate any feedback....

Re: Winged C EL34-WC

I have generally had good results with the "Winged C" EL-34's. A few months back I had to send one back to AES as it had debris rattling around in it, they replaced it with no problems. I actually serviced two Marshall TSL 100's in the last 6 months where the customers purchased JJ EL34's from AES a...

Re: Bad Cat Cub ii OT Question

Thanks Guy's, much appreciate the input! I think your right. Got ‘a say I really liked the way it was sounding......and yea it is very much like looking at a Matchless chassis on the inside. I talked to James at Bad Cat, said he did not know off the top of his head what the primary P to P Z of the O...

Bad Cat Cub ii OT Question

Hi all, Was working on a Bad Cat Cub ii for a friend that had a pair of hosed EL84's. Tubes were replaced and all is working fine, puts out about 15 - 16 watts into 8 ohms. Along the way I checked the OT primary P to P impedance (just for future reference) and found it to be ~4K (3.96K Measured) int...
