Re: New guy here- introduction with questions

Hi Jim.. Welcome to the board.

The guys here are awesome. I had about the same amount of experience as you and with help from these guys I successfully constructed my own Express.

Take you time and ask lots of questions. You will do fine and will be in tonal bliss before you know it

New Speaker Cab on the way :)

Just ordered a new Cab from Port City Amps I talked to Daniel at Port City. I must say that he was great to deal with. Very quick to answer my questions and a very nice guy. Also, it turns out that he is originally from the same general area that I grew up in... He is now out of Ashville, NC. 1x12 O...

Re: Noise with cerntain notes on my Express build

Think I have resolved the issue. I'm not sure what cured the problem. I adjusted some of the wiring to be more 90 degree angles at crossing points and changed out one of the tubes. Somewhere between the different changes I made I think I got rid of the noise. Express goodness. Thanks for the advice ...

Re: Wreck amp clips

Great demo. One of the best I thought. Really gives you a good idea of what an express sounds like.

That's why we love em :)

Re: Noise with cerntain notes on my Express build

Thanks guys. 1. I have tried different tubes, and think I remember having the same issue with different tubes. I'll check again to be sure, but I don't think this was the issue. 2. I do not have the amp sitting on top of the Cab, so this also is probably not the issue. 3. I will check the solder joi...

Noise with cerntain notes on my Express build

Away from home at the moment, but wanted to get this out there and get some advice on how to proceed. When I play certain notes (specifically G or A) in different places on the guitar I get a static like noise from my Express. At first, I thought something was just rattling in the basement or possib...

Re: Best way to learn to read and understand a schematic

Agreed. This forum is awesome. I also consider myself a noob, but have built an Express and a Champ so far. I think it will be a long time before I 'graduate' out of noobhood and can understand the design aspects and what all of the parts are actually doing. For right now I can follow instructions w...

Re: Tips for an Express build

You'll do fine. Follow the build guide and when you run into something that you are not sure about, come and either search the forum or post a question. The people here are awesome and answered countless foolish questions for me on my build. In fact, I just kept a running thread open and asked quest...

Re: What was your very first build?

My first tube amp that I owned was a SF Fender Twin Reverb (no MV) that I bought from a friend of mine. He had gotten injured in a car accident and while he was recovering, he got interested in reparing amps. He had converted my twin from CBS to the Blackface circuit. Over time I had to take it back...

Re: Intro and Liverpool Build

Welcome Sean!

I finished my first build a couple of months ago. A great experience, a great amp, and a great forum.

I'm sure you'll do fine. It is indeed very rewarding to plug in and hear for the first time the awesome sounds from an amp you built yourself.

Cheers.

Re: New Picture of my Express - Jezebel

My wife is already jealous of the time I spend with my amps.If I started nameing them and sleeping with them.I'm afraid there would be ramifications. This is exactly how I ended up with the name Jezebel for her. Girlfriend had already started calling her the "Other Woman" and so Jezebel became natu...

Re: Airbrake Parts question

Thanks Mark, I guess the confusion is that even in the BOM in the Express BOM documents it references the 588-D100K-25RE but also says 210 series. However, on Mouser's Website they say that part number belongs to the D1000 series. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Ohmite/D100K25RE/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtb...

Re: Airbrake Parts question

Okay, I'm a bit confused again. The layout https://tubeamparchive.com/files/attenuator_layout_final_195_198.pdf shows the 210 series. However, this thread https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=2402&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=airbrake&start=0 Shows the 588-D100K-25RE which is the D1000 s...
