Re: Q: grid biasing signal tubes?

Good points.

The source will be line level, around 1V so a little hotter than a guitar, but not sure about the impedance yet.

Edit: 600 ohms. This is a pro audio line out (albeit 10dBV unbalanced).

Re: Q: grid biasing signal tubes?

Looked up zero bias operation & found http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/funwithtubes/Basics_04_Triodes.html . (Edit: Figure 4) However, I'm interested in the effects of supplying bias voltage to the grid, while grounding the cathode - not letting it build up aka grid leak. This would be similar to...

Q: grid biasing signal tubes?

Can a 12ax7 preamp stage be grid biased (instead of the standard cathode biasing scheme)? The cathode would be grounded, like a "fixed" bias power tube, with a small voltage on the grid to supply bias. I'm wondering if it would have less gain than the standard cathode resistor w/cap bypass, more cur...

Re: Which Jensen is this boys?

My vote FWIW is C12R as well. I have a C12NS and C12R next to each other at home.

The magnet structure on the C12N(S) is significantly larger than this speaker, as well as the C12R.

I'll be glad to help test. If anyone sees "testing, please ignore" briefly, that would be me. :D

(note that I'll not be adding content, but you'll see some saved edits in history)

Re: Leslie 147 Amplifier

Hopefully I can help a bit. I would say be careful with the stock V21 treble driver. IIRC, people would regularly damage the phenolic, by cranking up the stock amp, and/or distorting the signal prior to the amp. However, if you clean up the signal, that may help things overall (less clipping distort...

Man, that sucks. I can't stand head pain for very long, whether it be ears, teeth or even your standard headache.

Wonder if any of these would help (anyone ever hear of Asafoetida?): http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/re ... hache.html

Re: Who built this??? NEW pics added

Looks like the first dropping resistor in the B+ chain, based on position (next to the rectifier diodes & screen resistors). It could have a drifted upwards in value, which would drop voltages to the screens, PI and preamp stages.

Switch that meter to ohms, mister! :D

Re: These guys are the Amp Syndicate

I just need to point out that the whale was not graphic, nor was it pornography. There was a swimsuit in there somewhere.

ANYHOW - back to reality:

I'll contact Ultrasound after the holidays to see if they do such a thing. Also will check with a couple of local shops.

Gary, I found that to be completely OT relative to the ongoing Ultrasound discussion. Just trying to help, no malice intended here.

Re: These guys are the Amp Syndicate

How about just sitting there & playing a few at their place of business? I mean paying them for the privilege, of course. That would give them cash flow for otherwise idle amps, and take the pressure off of everyone (i.e. no sales expectations). I'm one of those guys that would take a lot away from ...

Re: These guys are the Amp Syndicate

This thread also reminds me of another site, but I'll not name names. Could we stop talking about your amps, Gary, and remain OT? That would be great. Back OT: I can't find the post, but IIRC someone said that Ultrasound could/should charge for playing their collection in-house. I for one would pay....
