Re: Noise gate question
I threw it in after the third stage in my X88R. Brought the noise down dramatically...REALLY DRAMATICALLY. I can't tell any difference in the tone untill I roll the volume WAY back...but who does that with that much gain. And, the tone doesn't necessarily change, you can just hear the "gate" closing...

Noise gate question
I got a Soldano X88R clone and I'd like to integrate a simple noise gate circuit into the lead channel. I've looked around the web but haven't come up with much. Any thoughts?

Re: 1966 aa165 bassman
I know...it sounds really cool. And once it goes away it stays gone. It happens about a minute after the standby gets flipped and it is there even with the volume turned down. It does go away when the PI tube is pulled. The PI is a new JJ, and I have tried an old also...makes no difference. I have s...

1966 aa165 bassman
It started life as an ab165. Someone let it get really crappy on the inside. Chassis was rusted and all the guts were just gross. I gutted and rebuilt to aa165 with vintage wire, etc...kept the trannies, swapped the pots, kept the blue caps, removed the death cap, all new carbon comp resistors. Anyw...

Re: 1972 Pinceton Reverb problems
Why why why suspect the reverb transformer? Oh, my car won't start. Blame the windshield. Turns out it was the reverb transformer. Dropped a new hammond in it and BAM!...works great. I about killed the 6V6s from it though when I threw them in my express for a minute. Yikes! But the amp sounds like ...

Re: Red Goop In Dr. Z & Metro Amps
With regard to the badger goop...Husky can add to this and I'd be curious to hear his opinion, but I was talking with John Kasha a few months ago when degooping a old Rockmod II. John said that the reason for the goop was two fold. One, it hid values. Second it affected the frequency response of the...

Re: What would you do?
as to the alumamark faceplates...download you a copy of Inkscape. You can do panels in vector graphics and send it to your local trophy and award shop. Most likely they have a laser and can do what you need them to. There is a great place her in town that I use.

Re: New Express..slight problem.
Good news fellas...apparently the new pair I got for this build is a wuss pair. Cause I swapped out the tubes from my marshall and the amp sounds completely different. Both sets are JJ EL34 too. It was so nice...now I gotta go undo some stuff I did.
