Two Rock Studio Pro 22

A friend of mine just bought the amp used, so I had him take a couple pictures. If there is more interest I can maybe let him read some values. But I guess the preamp will be similar to others, I haven't done any comparison. Anode voltage on the 6V6s is 466V. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PM42Zp...

Re: Zero dB please...

The Zero dB project (zero decibels = silence)

Unfortunately, wrong guys. It's unity gain. Of course silence with a gain of 1 would still be silence...
Should have thought about a better name. But well, what do musicians know

Re: MESA BOOGIE DUAL RECTIFIER build

Yes sir, that's it! In the end it looked something like this . Excuse the bad handy shot. Probably not the best layout possible, but as already said it was my first amp. Not the most clever thing to do when it's even a high gain amp but fortunately I didn't have any problems at all. You can also see...

Re: MESA BOOGIE DUAL RECTIFIER build

Hi austinb, I built a Rectifier as my first amp, no trouble with that. If you already have some experience go for it. I used this schematic: Clean channel , OD channels , power amp , power supply , FX loop , switching matrix I think the clean channel is derived from a Mark XXX whatever. Somebody put...

Re: Relay supply from a 6.3V tap ?

Well, Google would have answered that since it's probably one of the most common circuits ever... Anyway, just drew it up for ya here . this would provide about 6.9 to 7.7 volts at the regulator input of the regulator. A 7805 needs a minimum of 7.5 volts at its input. This could be modified to an L...

Re: Relay supply from a 6.3V tap ?

You know, I thought it would be common and easy to find, too. But, last night I spent hours Googling, and searching AmpGarage, AX84, 18Watt, PPWatt, and just couldn't find anything clear cut on it. Maybe I wasn't combining the magic search string. I dunno. So, I figured to just ask. Thanks Marshmel...

Re: Relay supply from a 6.3V tap ?

Sure, no problem. I would use a standard voltage regulator circuit (bridge rectifier -> fat electrolytic cap -> regulator -> 100n cap) using a 7805. Or 7806 or whatever DC voltage you're aiming for. But about 6V will be the upper limit. Or squeeze out another volt using a low drop regulator.

Re: What leads to twist

I also twist the leads to control grids of the power tubes if possible. And both primary and secondary of the OT.

But on the other hand, you don't really need to twist the power tubes heaters, you can also put them straight from one pin to the next.

Re: Tubes UP vs. Tubes Down

Heat = hot air is going to rise up. So, in a tubes down configuration, the heat emitted from your power tubes will heat up everything above them, which is your chassis. The problem is capacitors (and resistors to some degree) don't like that. It shortens their life time. You also get a change in cap...

Re: What to do about hum?

What is really strange is that hum level doesn't change with your volume control. Hum is normally picked up by the first stages, so turning down master volume (if you have this) should make it dead quiet. Whatever, easiest thing avoiding hum is heating with DC for the first stage(s). You could do it...

Re: best electrolitic cap

I also use F&T and JJ capacitors. But compare for example the life time of the F&T with some Epcos electrolytics .

Thanks for the tip VacuumVoodoo, I will give them a try. I know somebody working there designing caps, but I never really thought about using them myself...

Re: Best low wattage amp?

I really like the Fender Champ. Some tweaking here and there and you can get some decent overdrive also suited for rock.

Or take a look at the old Gibson designs like GA5, they are pretty similar.
