Re: 6 string guitar and Thiele cabs

Probably attenuated a bit for a drop-tuned guitar. Might be OK with a bass player in the band.

If you really want to thumpity-thump with a guitar, maybe look at the EV15" speaker and the similar cabinet design for it.

Re: Creating the 30 deg angle for a Fender princton Rev chassis

A relatively decent table saw with a really good mitre gauge will cut those. It's more important for the cuts to be equal left and right side than perfect. Get it set up, make the angled cuts without adjusting anything in between. Start with a piece of scrap to setup the saw first, then cut the actu...

Re: Balancing resistors for series capacitors

If it is a Fender Blues/HotRod series, just replace them. No need to test them.

Re: "too many requests errors" on this site

I notice the "guest" count is through the roof when the "too many requests" happened.

I don't know if there are simply that many IP's browsing the site without signing in, or perhaps the board software has bug that keeps the guest count too high and loads up the server software.

Re: Power transformer effect on tone?

I keep getting whacked by the "too many request" problem on the board. The "less good" power transformers I've got in my pile of unused parts are notably smaller cores and lack a flux-band and probably the electrostatic shield. They also seem to "regulate" more poorly than the heavier part numbers t...

Re: Power transformer effect on tone?

Tone is entirely subjective. However, there are good and less good power transformers. I have a couple of New Sensor Corp Fender replacement transformers, described as 50-watt bassman, tweed bassman, super reverb, etc direct replacements. However, the core stack is a lot shorter, fits the hole right...

Re: And so it begins...

How it is going.... Since I'm building on a non-standard chassis, (Weber 6M45 JTM45 style), it is a bit smaller and more crowded. It also comes with 6 holes for pots. So I drilled it for 8 pots, by using the pilot lamp hole and put a hole right between the second set of input jacks. So 8-across. The...

Re: reverb tank mounting

Well, this is actually a somewhat complex topic. First, there's the Accutronics Reverb Tank part number secret decoder ring: https://www.tubesandmore.com/tech-articles/accutronics-products-and-specifications The "classic" Fender amp reverb, from the mid-60's till about 1980-ish is part number 4AB3C1...

Re: New Octal Sockets for 64 Tremolux

I think the Electro Harmonix "Celanex" fits, at least they say it does, and they offer a ceramic octal that they say fits. EH drives me nuts with the lack of specs though. Price is nice. I really don't care for most ceramic sockets. The old USA made plastic ones seem to hold up better than any of th...

I'll bet on the standby switch, or even the neon lamp itself, but switch is my first instinct.

Re: What do you all do with extra parts and prototype leftovers?

I dunno, I'm trying to use up stuff from decades of building things. I finally got around to a couple of restorations that turned out great, that have been waiting for over 20 years to get done. Now I'm building an ODS on a Weber JTM45 style chassis that's been used for several builds, none of which...

Re: Who is just starting a ODS build?

I’ve got one started. I haven’t organized a thread specifically but have a couple of posts going in this section here and there. I have a pile of scrap—- aka “vintage boutique amplifier components” in the garage that I’m trying to consolidate into working amps. I restored a Silvertone 1484 and a Mag...

Re: How many knobs does an ODS need?

Did some drilling tonight and I got 8-pots on the face of the Weber 6M45 chassis. I enlarged the pilot light hole, and put a new 3/8" hole in between the second pair of input jack holes. This is what it looks like with the power switches, 8 random stunt pots installed and a couple of input jacks. Th...

Re: How many knobs does an ODS need?

Seems sensible. I think 7 front panel pots are doable by moving the pilot light. I was maybe thinking concentric master volumes for clean and drive? I have some concentric pots I could swap the resistor wafers to get the needed values. How about front panel switches? I might be able to squeeze some ...

How many knobs does an ODS need?

I'm building an ODS-style amp out of stuff I have hanging around. I decided to use a JTM45 style chassis that's been various experimental amps over the years (as I recall, it is Weber JM45 chassis from many years ago). It's your usual 4-input, 6 pots, pilot lamp, and Marshall-style standby and power...
