The cabinet is a beauty! Nice work under the hood as well. Regards

Re: Jan Marie
Sound clip for comparative sake (excuse my timing!) I am no pro so it is what it is. The power is down to only 40% and it is still pretty loud so probably the reason it doesn't clean up as well as usual. Les Paul neck vol low, bridge vol low, bridge vol midway and then bridge vol opened up. 4x12 Mar...

Re: Jan Marie
Wow--thanks for the comments guys. I freely admit I have lifted a lot of knowledge from you all to be able to build 'wreck' styled circuits with mostly success--so for this, I am sincerely grateful. This is about all I am competent to contribute to the cause at this point. (All I do know is that the...

I don't post here very often because I am not in the same league as you pros (though I have learned a lot by just reading past and present posts); RJ suggested that I post a couple pics of recent builds that I thought turned out fairly well. I got the PTs from RJ. These are not wreck clones proper b...

Re: ECL86 Rocket... any reason I shouldn't?
FWIW bean, I have built several pseudo wreck clones using the ECL82 (6BM8) and they actually sound pretty good. They work great and are plenty loud for small gigs and if you need a little bit more, just slap a mic in front of it. Don't weigh a ton either. The excess gain of a Wreck proper doesn't su...

I think that they use zeners and such to drop voltage on the plate and grid. IMHO they are just as e-rex said: novel. I have tried a similar approach with many a lower voltage tube in a higher voltage amp and the results were really a learning experience. YMMV

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
Hi Dana, been kinda keeping an eye on the 15 watt build--hope it is going well and I am excited to see what you end up with. I just finished a 2XEL84 Liverpool copy; it is a Ceriatone preamp board into a Marshall 18 watt chassis with a tube rectifier and a 'wreck PS. Ceriatone OT. Voltages all worke...

Re: 12AU7 in Express...
Interesting; so by using a 12AU7 (or 12AY7) you reduce the gain through to the two power tubes so they won't get to the point of saturation (distortion)? Just the V1B, V2A and the 12AU7 will reach the desired level of saturation?

Re: Trainwreck Pre and Marshall Power Amp
Got it. I can draw an loose assumption that it should also lower the gain on V2 a scosh; could be a good thing. I will post a sound clip when this is all fininshed. Again, I appreciate the input.

Re: Trainwreck Pre and Marshall Power Amp
Thanks for the feedback darkbluemurder! I know what you mean about the PCB--it doesn't take long to trash one of those. Sounds like you experiment quite a bit. Attached is a schematic I drew up when I finished it just so I could remember what I did--a little crude by modern standards but what the he...
