Princeton reverb build. Speaker
Hello. I’m half way through building a Deluxe 5E3 kit and I want to order another Kit before I finish this one. (I have a buyer, I’m not rich). The next project is a Princeton reverb. I have a choice of cabinets, 10” or 12” Speaker. I have no idea what the difference is in terms of sound or volume e...

Re: AC Mains switch testing, acceptable tolerance
Hello. In the UK all mains to earth parts have to be tested to withstand double the mains voltage. We use a simple instrument, a Megger which puts 500V across live and earth and resistance must be over 500K ohm. Nowadays “elf n safety” the great Industry in it’s own right insists every appliance in ...

Tube life.
Hello. My question I’m sure has been asked 1000 times. I have tried looking without success. My question is how long on average do Tubes last. I have built a Champ 5F1 kit. If i turn it on every day and play for 1 hour, how long would the tubes last? Do I ask Santa or my Grandchildren to get me some...

Hello trobbins. Yes. The all yellow wires were the original wires but when I turned the socket round to the “correct” way I shortened them. When i swapped it back I hade to replace a couple of wires so I used black for the Cathode leads. Thank you all for your replies. I’m sure the feedback was caus...

Hello Mate.
I’m “Darn Sarf”. Gravesend in Kent. It’s a few short miles away. Nothing I can’t handle. Last Year I rode to Woolacombe on a 125cc Vespa Scooter. I’m an old man and I don’t have to prove I can do what I did 36 Years ago again.

Champ clone hum eliminated.
Hello. This is a report on what Bob Ross would have called a happy accident. I built a 5F1 kit. This is my third one. It was a combination of two different kits. An Ampmaker WF55 and a Modulus one. (I’m in the UK). Because they were both slightly different I had to resort to a certain amount of work...

Re: The Great British Valve Project.
It’s great.
i volunteered but they declined because they think I live too far away. I’m a happy camper so I’ll give them a call when this “Plandemic” eases.

Re: Speaker connection.
First: Merry Christmas.
Second: Thank you for your kind replies. On reflection I shall wire the speaker through a jack plug.
Sometimes I think too hard.

Hello. Thank you for your replies. I can explain, long story alert. Skip the next paragraph unless you can’t sleep, sitting on the toilet or at work. When I decided to Learn to play a Guitar, I looked at all the gear that’s available. I was born in 1963. My interest in electronics at the age of 13 c...

Speaker connection.
Hello. I’m building my fourth amp, It’s my latest Hobby. Something I’m unhappy about is the connection from the amp to the speaker. All the kits I’ve looked at use a 1/4” jack plug which can easily be unplugged or a poor connection will fry the output transformer. The Champ I’m building I connected ...

Hello Prof. I’m a bit late to the party but I’ve only just joined this Forum. Your wing nut problem could be solved by using “Captive nuts”. These are a square nut held in a cage. You file out the chassis holes to a square shape. The cage clips inside the hole. The nuts can move about a bit so accur...
