18W EF86/TMB noise problem with gain/master volume maxed
Hi, I've got a little problem with an 18W amp that I built recently. It has the added EF86 in the front end "en lieu" of the normal half ECC83 channel, as such the second half of the first tube for the TMB channel remains unused. The values of the circuit are all taken from the Trinity sIII schemati...

Re: relay supply voltage
Yesterday I rewired the ps to a bridge rectifier with a 1000uf filtering cap. The relays switch ok, but the voltage still drops to about 4.3 when the 3 relays are on. Maybe I should try using a 5v regulator with another 1000uf ish cap at the end and see if the voltage remains constant. Anyway Im gue...

Re: relay supply voltage
Would a simple bridge rectifier for this purpose ?
The lower voltage shouldnt be an issue since the relays are 6v
anyway, it should be enough to operate the switch.
What still puzzles me is that I used the same ps and relays on another build without these problems.

Re: relay supply voltage
ok, the relays are 6V finder 40.52 types which i bought from a local electronics supplier. i took a look at the datasheet ( http://www.finder.de/comuni/pdf/S40EN.pdf ) but couldnt find any info on the actual current draw. As for now I don't have a diode across the relay coil, but I can't see how thi...

relay supply voltage
Hi, I just finished (yet another) ODS style amp running two 6v6 valves. Unfortunatley I've got some issues with my relay switching. Im using the standart voltage doubler off the 5V heater taps and into a 78s10 voltage regulator. When none of the coils are grounded the supply voltage sits at about 10...

Re: missing midrange clarity
Hi, I finally got around to making some more changes on my hybrid a. I put a 3,3uf parallel to the 5uf on CL2, upped the snubbers to 330p and put the 100k tail back on the bleeder circuit. The clarity is definately much better now and I'm getting the feeling that finally I'm getting somewhere. I als...

Re: Mercury Magnetics Output tranny
Hi,
I also considered the mercury Dynaco transformers for a build, unfortunately they are so damn expensive. That's why I wanted to ask if anybody has any experience with the Dynaclone Transformers from triodeelectronics. They surely are way cheaper then the mercurys
cheers,
Patrick

Re: missing midrange clarity
dogears, I guess I just misread you there, will try 180k/2,7k. As for the bleed circuit, I actually run it on 100k or less, I just happen to like the sound more, that's why I didn't like the 100k tail on the pot. Anyway I guess I should really leave the amp alone for some time and get more hours on ...

Re: missing midrange clarity
Yesterday I had some time to make a few changements so here's the outcome : I changed V1a and V2a to 180k/1,8k but I actually didn't notice that much of a difference, so I guess I'll just leave it at that. I also tried to add a 100k tail to the bleeder circuit but this I didn't like at all, the amp ...

Re: missing midrange clarity
Hi, I did change the 1m od master for a 100k pot with the single master volume yesterday. I also lowered the voltages on V1 and V2 a bit . I much prefer the amp like that a lot sweeter sounding and the clarity is also much better now. FWIW I already run a 10p on the global master right now and the b...

Re: missing midrange clarity
I already have quite some experience with amps, so I guess lead dress isn't an issue. I'd have to say that I used quite a lot of shielded cable but it is RG59 coax which only has about 14p/feet. I just recently shielded the wire to the drive pot and the one to the od master and it didn't take away a...

Re: missing midrange clarity
Right now I'm using a 2x12 open back with Tone Tubby Ceramics which aren't completely broken in yet, so I'll have to get some more hours on them. Before I was using the same 2x12 open back with celestion g12h which actually sounded alright. Unfortunately I moved into a new flat with less space and I...

Re: missing midrange clarity
thanks alot for the suggestions. I will try to go back to the standart 100k level with a global 1m master just to see if i like it. Also I'm using xicon mpp couplers. I tried the od ps but I prefer the xicons. Pf value caps are ceramic, only the snubbers are parallel polystyrene/ceramic. Maybe I sho...

missing midrange clarity
Hi all, Since this is my first post I?d like to say hello to all of you guys on the forum. I just recently finished my first clone as per the ods-101 non hrm schematic. I've already done some tweaking and am actually quite happy with it. The thing which strikes me though is that somehow it is missin...
