VHT Special 6 Ultra project
Hi y’all! A buddy of mine is interested in sending me his VHT special 6 ultra to improve. He’s running it with a 6L6 at the moment and seems open to all kinds of ideas. He wants more clean headroom out of the amp. I’ve been checking out some single ended KT88 designs that interest me. I don’t have t...

Re: 1966 Fender Vibrolux restoration project
I've managed to get all the components together for the restoration! I had to use a new 3meg pot for the trem, and an entire fender tremolo rebuild kit which was perfect for this vibrolux. (sorry sluckey! I do want to build the trem-o-nator soon!) I feel lucky that many of the original components we...

Re: 1966 Fender Vibrolux restoration project
Is it worth my time to undo them and bring it back to stock for the sake of resale? Depends on how valuable your time is. Fair point. I may just restore the cabinet and offer to bring back to stock for some more $. I was interested in trying out your trem-o-lator circuit if the trem circuit was goi...

1966 Fender Vibrolux restoration project
Hey folks, I would love to get some input on this Vibrolux reverb restoration. The amp was given to me by someone I know who found it rummaging through an old basement at an estate sale. Excellent find! The cabinet is pretty moldy, I’m going to hit it with some water/bleach mixture to kill the mold ...

Re: Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting
The more I’m thinking about this construction style, I’m leaning towards going with 2 turret strips with the correct amount of turrets on them. I’ve seen that kind of thing in some of the handwired tone king amps and it seems like very reliable build quality. Plus it forgoes a lot of mounting points...

Re: Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting
I do have a JJ 40/20/20/20 can cap laying around which would give me some room to add an extra PS node and possibly get away with a 3 lug terminal strip for the 2 extras. It will probably be worth my while to make sure the PSU is able to handle its demands for eternity, or at least until the caps dr...

Re: Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting
Too many gain stages on the power supply D node. Oh! I actually didn't notice there's a typo about that in my schematic. The input stage is coming from node "E" NOT "D". I know the general rule is 2 gain stages per node but does that apply to cathode followers? Not sure if it's more demanding than ...

Re: Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting
And yes, there are some inconsistencies with the schematic— I’m kinda new to expressSCH and was working off components that were not editable

Re: Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting
E164DC90-C06E-480B-8B8B-497DED7FCCEC.png The schematic labelling for the tubes seems wonky, lottsa V1s. The treble cap is 10x higher value than is typical of the usual Gibson/Vox type tone stack, correct? The unusually high value of the reverb intensity pot may cause the dry signal level to increas...

Re: Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting

Original Circuit schematic and layout... for roasting
Hello! Here's a circuit design that's kind of a cross between a british preamp and an american style tweed poweramp and PI with a gibson inspired reverb circuit using a 12dw7 to eliminate the parallel reverb driver. What do you think? I have gotten some useful feedback on the schematic already, but ...

Re: Chassis Design
Yeah I was going to go down the road to bending my own chassis but the more I looked into it, the more I decided that for me it would be more efficient/cost-effective to just buy them pre-made and drilling them myself. It is definitely my least-favorite part of a build by a long-shot... lol. Especi...

Re: Chassis Design
While it can be done in Inkscape, you really should look into a full-blown CAD program for chassis design for eventual CNC manufacturing. There are really good free ones out there that run on a variety of platforms... Win/Mac/Linux. They are not really hard to figure out for stuff as simple as accu...
