Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...

Yes, I love all this info! I'm learning with everything all of you are posting, please keep it up! I'm still just trying to decide if I want to buy two 4 ohm or two 16 ohm Eminence speakers for my amp..... :) :)

Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...

Take it your critique includes the Lil' Texas? I've yet to have Texas Heat around for testing A vs B, but once broken in a Lil' Texas does (for my ears) commendably well in Fender combos - both in a re-baffled Princeton & in a '70 Deluxe Reverb. Best .. Ian Thanks, Ian! I hadn't considered that one...

Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...

I don't know about sound, but in series, they each have to be rated for the max wattage of the amp, in parallel, in theory, they share the load mostly equally. (in practice it's not perfect) so for better capacity with the same wattage speakers two 16 in parallel is more power handling. Not sure if...

Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...

Here's a question showing what a nooby I am when it comes to electronics & speakers in general. I can get the Texas Heat in both 4 ohm & 16 ohm (as well as 8 ohm). This may be a stupid question, but is there any advantage to having two 4 ohms in series vs. two 16 ohms in parallel? Will there be any ...

Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...

Thanks again, guys! I've got a couple other responses about the Texas Heat, sounds like it's a "well loved" speaker! :D Some folks said the "Legend 1258" is a decent inexpensive option too, but it's only available in 8 ohm. I think I'll pick myself up a couple Heats and give them a try! Avatar doesn...

Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...

Thanks, guys! One thing I forgot to mention is that I need either 4 ohm or 16 ohm speakers, a lot of the other Eminence speakers I was looking at only come in 8 ohms. The amp has an 8 ohm output, currently has two Fisher 4 ohm stock speakers wired in series. So I would either do that, or use two 16 ...

Eminence Speaker Advice...

Hi there! I'm going to replace my old Fisher 12" speakers with something new. They are in an old Airline Twin Twelve, maybe 40 watts. Sounds quite dark. I've narrowed it down to the Eminence Private Jack, Cannabis Rex or Texas Heat. I'm mainly an old school rock player (Beatles, Grand Funk, James Ga...

Re: Replacement 12" speakers for Airline 62-9015A Amp

A choke is not a transformer, it's an inductor. It's the opposite of a capacitor in that it passes low frequencies easier than high frequencies, so it's cutting lows at the last possible point in the signal chain. It will look like a small transformer, but it will have only two leads. You can just ...

Re: Replacement 12" speakers for Airline 62-9015A Amp

Leo, Thanks for your input! Maybe you & Martin can explain to me what the "choke" actually is, and what it's doing. When you said that you've removed it in amps that have it, do you mean you just remove the wires from that small OT to the speakers? Or is that OT part of the "choke"? I had our local ...

Thank you so much, Martin! I know some folks get irritated when "newbies" such as myself ask these simple questions, I appreciate your patience, and time to explain it to me!

Re: Replacement 12" speakers for Airline 62-9015A Amp

According to a schematic I found in Jack Darr's book, there is a choke across the OT secondary (in parallel with it). The speakers are in series, so you don’t need to do anything different with the OT and the choke, just connect everything in parallel, OT, choke, and 2x 16Ω speakers. Thanks, Martin...

Re: Replacement 12" speakers for Airline 62-9015A Amp

Yes, wired in series! So you're right, I could parallel two 16 ohm speakers. This also has the OT wired separately to the speakers, I'm not familiar with the way this was done, it's wired like the photo in the link below. If I wired two speakers in parallel, how would I wire the OT? https://www.goog...

Replacement 12" speakers for Airline 62-9015A Amp

I'm new to the forum, so please forgive me if this topic has been hashed to death, I know opinions about speakers vary all over the place. :D I've got a neat old Airline "Twin Twelve" 62-9015A amp, has the original 12" Fisher speakers. They are sounding a bit tired, and the amp tends to have a "dark"...
