Re: Wiring in some filter caps

Perhaps I should have posted a pic of the actual board I installed so the drawing makes a bit more sense. Since I'm having to go with this layout since I didn't wanna go with radial caps that were available, I'm going to lay the 6 caps out along this board, hence the drawing I made with the various ...

Re: Wiring in some filter caps

Oh, in case someone is curious why I labeled the caps with 1-6 and not in order, in notes I took before taking it apart I labeled the caps as 1 and 2 for the top left and middle, and 3 and 4 for bottom left and middle. The two off to the side w/o copper plates I labeled as 5 for the top and 6 for th...

Re: Wiring in some filter caps

Here is my extremely rudimentary drawing lol I think this is how I'm going to lay out the caps on my board. If you guys can verify I got those things laid out smartly that'd be awesome. It seems I got all the wires run from the proper component to the proper cap (copying the old layout I took notes ...

Re: Wiring in some filter caps

Here are better schematics. Can't remember if I posted any in my last thread about what caps to buy but this is a very clear, easy to read set of schematics since Xtian requested I post them.

Re: Wiring in some filter caps

I see what you're saying Xtian, I didn't notice the break in the copper, the 2 lower squars go to ground but I see what you mean by the ground plates of the top 2 being tied to the positive leads of the others because they don't ground themselves. To copy that, do I just need to ground those 2 caps,...

Re: Wiring in some filter caps

I haven't touched any caps in the amp yet, I only did the pots and sockets and copied exactly the way they were before I got in there. The picture shown is how the amp looked before I even started doing all this. I'm actually working now on a design to lay out the caps so that I can hook wires up pr...

Wiring in some filter caps

I'm almost done with my Red Bear refurbish. Assuming I didn't wire in a preamp tube socket incorrectly, or a power amp tube socket with those huge thick wires incorrectly (don't want to burn my house down). Also, hopefully I hooked the pots up correctly so that my EQ works as it should lol Anyways, ...

Re: Chime in with some cap mounting ideas

The usable room in the old cap area is about 6-7" by 2.75" max. Anymore than that and wires/leads will be up against the chassis or the power amp board. The radial caps I like are only 1.66" so that leaves plenty of room for wire/leads to be set up comfortably. I looked at the refurbishing of the or...

Re: Chime in with some cap mounting ideas

It turned from a simple pot replacing job into a pot, filter cap and socket job. The sockets have always been extremely loose and tightening methods didn't really do anything for it. The pots in these things are plastic bodied crap, so since 1 was bad and killing it, might as well replace all 6, and...

Re: Chime in with some cap mounting ideas

Well going back and checking it out, F&T makes 2" tall can caps (JJs are too tall), which will just fit under the metal box. Getting the dual section caps, I only have to buy 1 100/100uf 500v cap and clamp, and 2 50/50uf 500v cap and clamps. No matter which way I have to orientate them in the box, t...

Re: Chime in with some cap mounting ideas

Yeah, that's who I'm going with, under one of their many names; I'm using the Tubes and More one. Anyways, I had considered the multiple section can caps and having to just buy less of them but the 100uf ones were too tall to fit under the cap box. I've decided on buying some turret board, eyelets a...

Chime in with some cap mounting ideas

Since I'm going to have to "custom" mount some caps in this Red Bear amp, I'd like some of your opinions on how you would go about doing this. I've considered getting JJ or F&T can style caps and some clamps and drilling a few holes in the chassis as my first option, but no sites seem to have either...

Re: Who has re-capped their Red Bear?

Oh, yeah well I saw those numbers lol I'm talking with a guy in Europe who has worked on his before, he has the information on the other caps that aren't listed that are on the impossible to read schematics. He said he redrew the entire amp schematic on 1 file so everything can be seen. He's going t...

Re: Who has re-capped their Red Bear?

Yeah, that's the schematic I'm talking about. You must have super human eyes to be able to read that. Any time I've tried blowing it up to clearly see the numbers, it looks like an alien language it's so jacked up. I printed it out and it's a liiiiittle better but not by much.

Re: Who has re-capped their Red Bear?

As you can see in the pics, on the left hand side, there are 6 holes. 4 with copper plates, 2 without. That's where the filter caps go. I wish they had a nice board with the power section's caps on it like the Peavey VTM I re-capped, or the SLO clone I was building. Oh well, I guess Russia had their...
