Re: power transformer getting hot
Paraphrasing an old Pass rule of 'thumb.' if you can touch it for 10 seconds it is 45 degree Celsius and blimey hot [112F]. Only 5 seconds it is 50 degree Celsius and crikey hot [122F]. At 2 seconds it is 55 degree bloody hot [131F]. If you have to pull away immediately it is f##kin' hot at over 60 ...

Re: From Tesla to Black Holes
The electrodynamic tether https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrodynamic_tether is interesting reading. It may be exploitable with improvements in carbon nanotube cables. We already tap into the earth's electromagnetic fields by firing tethered rockets into storms. I don't think they have managed to d...

No, this won't be hacked up in any way. It's a family treasure, at least in my mind. Good for you :!: Have you seen Bob Andersen's Predicta Holiday Restoration? https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4aHiwoXvLGBprX4XdN2y62xYCp5PgZx_ Shango does a Pedestal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXupqHf19Q4

Re: 6CW5/EL86 output transformer
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them with an old Sun/Dynaco clone (30w?). I was surprised it worked as well as it did. But suggest that no one throw away their EL34's. In comparison it was definitely under-powered. Also tried a 6BQ5 20w pp transformer with the 8 ohm speaker on the 16 ohm tap. Ve...

6CW5/EL86 output transformer
Acquired a bunch of 6CW5/EL86 tubes in a box of TV stuff. Televisions used them as single ended with a 6K impedance primary. Figured to use them in push pull. So I am looking for an output transformer with maybe 3K ohm primary and 8 ohm secondary at around 15 watts. I tried using a 12 volt toroid tr...

Re: What was the first album / CD you bought?
On LP it was Sandy Nelson's Let There Be Drums in 1962.
First CD was Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus sometime in the mid '80s.

Take a look at Pete Millett Engineer's Amplifier designed for sweep tubes. http://www.pmillett.com/DCPP.htm By disconnecting pin 11 [omitting R3,4,5,6] and adding the plate cap it should substitute for the 6JM6/6JN6. And it appears to be a much stronger tube than those two. I would use a B+ of 450v ...
