Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I've got just about everything I need to assemble my chassis, except I just realized that there may be a difference between my transformer and the one in weber kits. It has to do with this end of the pot/resistor/diode end that looks like it needs a 50v bias voltage. My transformer doesn't seem to h...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I've made a lot of slow progress building the board since I last posted, and am nearing the point of having a piece of cardboard to mount the pots and jacks on while I wire them. I am also nearing the point of referring back to what all of the transformer wires go to, and decoding my wires compared ...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

After almost 2 years, I'm back. I decided to make a chassis to original spec out of a little heavier than original gauge galvanneal sheet metal (because that's what I could find at the metal yard). I'm missing a couple of resistors and a capacitor, and besides that and making my own component board,...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

The hole farther from the OT is the same size, just closer to the PT. It would not affect the interior part mounting much. I think about fabricating a custom chassis sometimes. But that would really slow down the build a lot, I've not been granted access to the metal shop I work in for personal use ...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

12 step program? But I don't want to quit! Hey, also, there's another hole closer to the PT I could move the rectifier to in order to move it away from the OT. It would be a tiny bit further from the PT than it is from the OT which may be better since the PT has a metal case. You can see the extra h...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I was thinking, and I remember rotating it would either pinch the wires under it if I use the same hole, or necessitate 5 new holes while not alleviating much more space in the process. I think an extension for the recto or a SS one would be best. I bought the 'another good deal' meter on your las l...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I tried rotating it, I just thought that would expose the waxy papery part of the transformer to the heat. What about using a SS rectifier? The power tubes are probably far enough away. I don't remember if turning it made the wires not reach, or if I just didn't like the idea of drilling 4 more hole...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

Ok, again, I'm pretty sure I've got the resistors IDed pretty well, but my cheapo meter isn't reading them very solidly. So I need a recommendation for somewhere online to buy a beginner/mid level decent meter. And how to read capacitors or what settings it needs to have to be able to read capacitor...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

Should I go for moving the OT tho the outside of the chassis?

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I'll see if I can read them with my cheapo HF meter accurately next time I sit down at the bench. Meanwhile, any tips on how to lay out a point to point layout drawing for myself? Would you say the tubes are in a good place? I could move the OT outside the chassis relatively easily of you think that...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I've got all the resistors figured out now except just one. According to the color chart, it's 1.2k ohms. I don't see where the layout on the 5e3p Proluxe that it should be. See photos for details.

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

I don't think that Proluxe layout is entirely correct, or else you have mis-read it. Rectifier: Assuming a GZ34 for which the Weber Copper cap is a direct replacement. If using the copper cap, you don't need any filament supply. If using a real tube, you need a 5V supply connected to pins 2 & 8. Tr...

Re: Auxiliary Power amp?

MaybeI don't know enough about how the amp works enough to properly approach what I think I want to do. Maybe the preamp and power amp are more tied together than I think they are and I can't simply plug the preamp section into a different power amp section. So perhaps building another head like I'm...

Re: Fender 5e3p from Wurlitzer organ amp

There is something with the rectifier tube I'm not sure about. What appears on the new layout as the filament pins for the 6L6s are tied together with a bias pot labed "hum balance". This is because they didn't really separate the signal and filament wires. So the part that differs between the new l...

Re: Auxiliary Power amp?

I'll bet someone has done this before, I've just not seen any write-ups on it. Otherwise I was just gonna tote an additional head with the combo amp or something.

On the lookout for accounts of external power amps being grafted into combo amps preamp section.
