Re: Dumble-ish Bandmaster Mod Ideas

Congrats on the beautiful amp and cab! I just wanted to chime in regarding your cab. Do you have the JBL speakers in there from that era? If you do I would hold on to them. I played a cab like yours with the JBLs and it sounded incredible with a JM/Wonderland amp and another SSS amp I built. Cheers...

Re: Where do you buy tubes?

Up north here I use www.thetubestore.com

I have also purchased power and preamp tubes from Eurotubes and TubeDepot and CE Distribution and I like them as well.

Thanks, I will try that.

Two Rock Shielded wire

Does anyone what type of shielded wire they are using here? This looks like a great wire to work with. This is the Bloomfield Drive that I had on my bench several years ago. It has the shielded wire that can easily be worked with in order to wrap around a pots lug or buss wire without making a mess....

I also love the Hakko irons. That is all I have been using.
If you are looking for a great inexpensive iron the Hakko FX600 is a great iron to start off with. It has the heavier tips too.

Broke over 1000s posts today, Wow didn't see that coming!

Re: Soapbox rant: Standby switches

The new Premier Guitar, Aug '25, p.80, reinforces all the nonsense about the usefulness of standby switches. This article isn't available on the web site yet, so I've pasted the text below. First though, is my rebuttal, which I sent to info@premierguitar.com: Rebuttal to “Are You Using Your Amp’s S...

Re: 65amps SoHo

There are a few more differences I missed but are minor. The input circuit is different due to the VVR. Also pins 2 and 7 are unused on the EF86. I have drawn an accurate schematic and will post it when I measure the voltages. I am on vacation this coming week and hopefully will have a bit of time ...

Re: My take on an SSS

i all, Bit late to the party, but I built this amp a while ago and wanted to share it. It's a fantastic amp—definitely one of my favorite SSS builds out there. I added an FET to the front end, inspired by one of the posts here. Big thanks to Manning for helping me get the bias set properly—I'm not ...

Re: Steel String Singer #005 build

Too bad the power tubes are still on the way to me  Hammonds tend to be conservatively rated on their secondary voltages so the 325-0-325 may get you a little higher than expected and with your wall voltages over 230VAC the voltages numbers you are getting actually look correct. I am betti...

Re: 70s ODS with footswitchable FET

I had an illness, then death, in my family so I have been away from building for a while. Had a chance to start back on this the other day. I redid the wiring around the output tubes, removed the bias probe jacks (I don't generally use them to bias anyway) and wired up the PT primaries and secondar...

Through hole: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/JvQecioH SMD: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/tEsCK0wL Just moved a couple traces and added a top ground plane for extra shielding. Holes for the pot and jack should be corrected. SMD version now has a through hole drain resistor because there's...

Amazing video!
Cool to see that this is using the longer style power tubes and opposed to the shorter stubby 6L6GC-STR style power tubes.
