Re: Express/Reverb
Reverb in the circuit is a terrible idea... I've tried in numerous ways, and failed miserably, always. Here's how you succeed... If you're a normal human, you need to play this amp with an attenuator anyway so you can crank it enough to let it do its thing... So do this: Get a BadCat Unleash. It's a...

Re: Retro Channel RR1 Amp: Claims Wreck Tones from SS Circuit
Hi, Back to the RetroChannel amp... I owned one... I wanted it to be what it claimed to offer... Trainwreck style tones, at bedroom volumes. As added bonuses, it had an effects loop and and a line out. It is actually a fun amp. Lance's demos are legit. However, for it's benefits... to me it has some...

Re: Pot recommendations for riding the guitar's volume pot?
Thanks for all the replies! Glen, your YouTube clips got me going down the Express-type "clean-to-mean" path... 50s-style wiring is not an option in my setup... so I can't "take advantage" of that side effect. Here's where I am: I've been through numerous "clean-to-mean"-type amps, struggling throug...

Pot recommendations for riding the guitar's volume pot?
Hi all, What can I do to add more "usable" volume range on my guitar's volume pot using a two-humbucker guitar through a Trainwreck Express-style amp? My Strat works well riding the volume knob... the 250k pot rolls off nicely, and much of the "sweep" of the volume pot is "usable" volume... You can ...

Re: Master Volume in an Express
I have owned two Express clones, and both of them came with PPIMVs. Glen (Geetarpicker) is exactly right, in my opinion. As much as I really want the MV to have some degree of use, it is really useless -- in the sense that you lose the reason that you want an Express. With a MV, the beauty of the Ex...

Re: I've seen the warnings. What's the actual result?
I owned an Express clone with an FX Loop -- it was a Two Rock Ruby. It had a switch where you could cut the FX Loop and Master Volume out of the circuit. I don't remember the details, but I tried both of them (the FX Loop and the MV). The amp sounded SOOO much better with them out of the circuit. Th...

Re: Flubby bass on Ceriatone Express. Upgrade transformer?
Wow, thanks for all the great replies.... 1) Sounds like I don't need a transformer. (Thanks all, and M Fowler in particular!) 2) PPIMV. Yes it is there, but I don't use it. It really thins the tone out. Better to have the PPIMV it cranked all the way, and then attenuate back with a BadCat Unleash, ...

Re: Flubby bass on Ceriatone Express. Upgrade transformer?
No I am not an amp tech. Speakers are all good, Celestion Gold, G12H30, Scumback, etc. Same problem. The Ceriatone was built by Sourmash Cabs, I believe. The work looks very clean (see attached photo). I'm no expert at all. The Mercury transformers are way cheaper than RJs Pacifics. That's about all...

Flubby bass on Ceriatone Express. Upgrade transformer?
My Ceriatone expression sounds flubby on the low end.
it has Mercury transformers from classictone.net I believe.
should I try an upgraded output transformer? Maybe from RJ?

Problem solved
Sorry guys, I don't know what I was thinking... The amp is now fat as can be... Again, not sure what I was thinking... but here's the deal... My Ceriatone TW Expression has a Master Volume. It needed to be dimed (cranked all the way). That's it. At first, I thought this Master Volume was very good f...

Re: New Express Clone: What are your suggested knob settings?
Thanks guys!
I'm trying what I know to try... and I will keep at it...
I have been working my guitars controls
I did swap out the V1 JJ with a TungSol.
Five minutes ago I ordered a Scumback M75 to try in place of the Celestion Gold.
Thanks again for helping!

Re: New Express Clone: What are your suggested knob settings?
Thanks, I forgot to mention speakers. I am currently using a Celestion Gold 1x12 cab. I tried a G12H-30 1x12 cab at first, but I switched because to my ear it had a bit of mid-scoop and brittle high that didn't seem ideal. I didn't look at the speaker's specs, I'm just going by ear. Not saying the C...

New Express Clone: What are your suggested knob settings?
Hi, Just got a Ceriatone Express clone, made by Sourmash Cabs. Nice build. I like it, but... I can't quite dial it right... Can you help? What settings are you using? I know these amps are known to be bright, but I can't seem to dial away enough brightness, particularly with a Strat. (A LP works bet...
