Re: need help naming my amp

I hereby release rights to use, "The Carelton" on your creation. You have thrown together the best combination of amplifier designs to maximize the comedic value of the reference, consider it a small gift.

Re: KT88 application notes

I have great faith in everyone's knowledge of their amplifiers here.

I think the confusion came from the fact that Marshall put out different models, sometimes in the same years, with different innards, under the same name.

Re: KT88 application notes

But I've seen the 1967 Model of the Marshall 200. (which people claim to be "The Pig" strictly because Mick Ronson called it that) Only the Marshall 200 model from 1967 is known as "The Pig" and it's clear because Marshall made the model number "1967." It had "Marshall 200" on the front panel, "Mars...

Re: KT88 application notes

I've always been confused by "The Pig." Marshall did differ the preamp section from '67 to '68, and though there was no official "The Pig" model, it seems to be regarded as the first revision of the 200 series after their 200 PA amplifier. It supposedly used some active tone filters and the Partridg...

Re: KT88 application notes

From what I've read, the Marshall Major (aka Marshall 200) power amplifier and output transformer were designed for application by Genalex. They designed it as they did other push-pull power amplifiers, for linearity and fidelity, like an RF amplifier, and they are expecting sinusoidal, clean signal...

Re: 4x8" speaker cab - anyone tried/built one?

The front baffle is built out of 3/4" pine board (not ply) that has been planed down to about 11/16". Is that too rigid of a baffle? I have heard that pure pine has a warm sound, almost too soft and muddled for extended bass range. I've personally never built a cab out of anything but ply, so I'm go...

Re: 4x8" speaker cab - anyone tried/built one?

That's a good idea John. I wonder how a potentiometer in the feedback path would fair. (definitely with a limiting resistor in series to avoid shorting the output to the cathode!) I have some 3 position switches sitting around, I'll definitely add a few feedback settings. Something about the mid pun...

Re: 4x8" speaker cab - anyone tried/built one?

I'm definitely sharing the power supply. I had originally intended to build two separate combos, essentially as stereo tube monitors, but two power transformers, two chokes, two chassis and now two heavy speakers to lug around became less appealing as I got into the logistics of the design. I'm only...

Re: New pickup technology?

There are only two PCB manufacturers in North America who can guarantee 3.5 mil specs, and a small multi-layer board will cost you a down payment on a house. Even then, they mess up. A more (technically less) novel approach to modifying your pickups may lie not in reinventing the wheel, but adding s...

Fender 8" Acoustosonic Speaker Build

I'm considering building a small 2 x 8" single-ended combo amp using these speakers. http://www.parts-express.com/fender-8-full-range-speaker-8-ohm--299-079 It will actually be two separate amplifiers in one combo, each powering one speaker with a separate input for guitar or keyboard on each channe...
