Express cab finished
Just finished my Express cab this week and thought you might get a kick out of a quick photo. The cab is oak stained with a chestnut stain with 2 semi-gloss clear coats. Not bad for a rush job

Re: Express chassis done....
The Moose/Hayboer transformers fit the mounting holes perfectly. The problem is getting the wires from the power transformer inside the chassis, since they originate from only one side of the PT. I cut most of the unused leads (for example, rectifier filaments and low-voltage B+) so that I did not ...

Re: Fuse wiring
The fuse is in series with the power transformer primary and the on/off switch....so, technically speaking, it really doesn't matter which side of the line you put it on.

Express chassis done....
....but I couldn't resist making some changes along the way. I started with Nik's boards and chassis, and Moose transformers. Then I: 1) Upgraded the in & out jacks. 2) Upgraded the coupling caps to orange drops. 3) Built a Sprague filter cap module board that's secured to the chassis with two of th...

Re: A few questions.....First time Express build
Actually, a few years ago I assembled a 5E3 so I have a little more knowledge than I let on. I know enough not to get electrocuted which is most important. Thanks for your response. I'll post a pic of the impedence selector as requested. In regards to my first question, I was asking where the lead ...

Does the stock Express bias circuit have enough bias range for 6L6's?

Re: Trying to get Express Trannies
I just received my transformers from Moose. Be patient...he told me that he has recently moved and has been out of town quite a bit these days on a work project. He'll probably get back to you as his schedule permits.

Re: a twreck build started - questions
Just took a quick glance at your photos and it appears that you don't have a needed ground wire attached to the + side of the bias supply electrolytics. With the bias supply filter caps not grounded, this would create hum at the amps output.

Re: a twreck build started - questions
I'm starting my Express build shortly and I'm going to try using plastic cable ties to hold the filter caps in place. I have some small plastic chassis mount cable tie brackets that are made for this purpose which should work nicely without all the goop. So we'll see how it goes when I get that far ...

Re: Need Trainwreck transformers?
Try contacting Moose through his webpage at toneslut.com. I might be wrong but I think I remember him saying he was going to be out of town for a short period. But I know for a fact that when you do hook up with him he'll have the goods as far as Trannys are concerned. Yup, I originally tried throu...

Re: Fast / Gradual Mode
Hi Rob. I've owned a few Komets and the fast/gradual switch changes the feel & gain of the amp. It's difficult to put into words but you know it when you hear/play the amp. It's basically switches in/out a tap on one of the preamp stages plate load resistor but, for something that simple, it has a d...
