Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

Update: Almost done researching. I think I've found enough information now that leads me to believe this is radio communications equipment of some kind, most likely self-built or prototype gear. i.e. Not Dynaco, but some of the parts may have been sourced from the same parts houses in Philadelphia a...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

I'd advise carefully exploring the Dynaco connection a bit more. These may very well be early prototypes or "kit-bashed" (modified kit) early models. The absence of any control panel markings, labels or other identifying marks suggests something of a one-off nature. RedDog Steve I received notifica...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

Still wish I knew what each of these units were originally made for and used for , originally? So far we have responses here on the Ampgarage forum indicating "amplifier, converter, H.A.M radio components, FM tuner" and more. :) I have no clue. Hopefully if someone can specifically identify the func...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

The smaller unit (or amp) actually produced audible sound. I hooked a CD player up to it through the RCA jacks many years ago and a nice sound came out of the speakers for a bit then I shut it off fearing it needs to be cleaned and checked out... didn't want to damage anything. Has a lot of dust on ...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

Certainly not ham radio linears, or PA ( power amps) - tubes are all too puny..... might be a receiver converter, though, judging from the filter/transformer cans...... Seems strange that there are absolutely no labels or markers...???? EDIT : receiver convertrers seems alot more likely--- I didn't...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

Those are linear transmitters I think. I have no clue what all this gear is or was but you bring up a word that might help . i.e. "Transmitter". I can tell you there was lots of ham radio gear, HUGE antennas on top of the house, special ham antennas on back of the cars, and I have an award sitting ...

Philadephia connection?

oh boy, just realized that Dynaco was originally started by David Hafler and Ed Laurant in Philadelphia PA. These were originally located in Media/Philadelphia PA in my grandfather's basement where I brought them from. Keeping my fingers crossed they are Dynaco just for the sentimental reasons. Now ...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

So are you selling these? I love stuff like this and would be interested in one of them. As far as who made these, my first reaction was Heathkit too but they don't really look like anything Heathkit produced from what I know them to look like. To be honest, they look like generic 50's tube amps. P...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

If these were HAM gear pieces, they would have a couple PL259 connectors for antennae. There were many tube hifi companies back then that made this stuff, and some sold kits. The ones you have, almost look like early Dynaco's. Woah, now wouldn't that be cool if that were true. I hope these turn out...

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

Once I figure out what these are, I would like to see these units go to someone who knows what they are and can use them. I already have my own solid state and tube audio gear I use, and don't need these and not for sentimental reasons any longer. The guy who wanted them thought they were some kind ...

Exactly, that's why I mentioned above in my last reply that I will "post on a site where I can insert better photos". i.e. meaning <Img> tag inserts. Got it. Will do. Thanks.

Re: Can you identify these old Tube amps?

Can't tell much by lookin' at the outsides. May be able to guestimate the schematic from a few well-composed, hi-res gutshots. I cannot tell what each really is other than I thought they were some kind of tube amps for either audio or ham radio use. The only reason I thought it was a tube amp is I ...
