Re: VVR guidance in Tweed Champ

What do you measure on the b+ in on the VVR. Also check your ground on the vvr I already have the VVR our of the amp but if mem serves me it was around 501 volts or something close to that. It was a solid steady reading. Dana, assuming the next VVR that I just ordered is working (which i'me sure it...

Re: VVR guidance in Tweed Champ

Remove the wire on the B+ out on the VVR and carefułly check the voltage at B+ out on the vvr board while adjusting the VVR pot. If it doesnt vary The voltage from full to 10% B+ then there is a problem with the VVR most likely the MOSFET. If you change the MOSFET make sure you also change the...

Is this procedure the same for a Tweed Deluxe with PCB board

[quote="sliberty"]Normally you would put the board in between the first filter and the plates (OT). But since a PCB was used and the first filter is on the board this would require lifting the positive side of the first filter from the board and connecting to this now loose end. Lift the two red wir...

Re: VVR Install Guidance in 5E3 Tweed Deluxe

Hi Bret, It looks like you're getting plenty of good advice as to how to wire the VVR into the circuit. So I thought I'd address a different subject: When I installed a VVR into my Tweed Deluxe clone, I removed the standby switch and mounted the VVR pot in the hole that used to be for the standby s...

I just found that wiring diagram surfing and wanted to ask about it.

Re: VVR Install Guidance in 5E3 Tweed Deluxe

I installed mine between the first power supply cap and the dropping resistor. As Mark stated. So I kinda used the first cap as a smoothing filter. I bolted the FET directly to the chassis and it failed within a few days. I then added a heatsink to the outside of the chassis at the FET mounting bol...

VVR Install Guidance in 5E3 Tweed Deluxe

Last week I successfully installed my first VVR3 in a Tweed Champ with all of your help and guidance! I am very good at following directions (20 years of being trained by wife), but now lack the skills of being able to think on my own :) After jamming with my tweed champ, my buddy asked me to instal...

Re: VVR guidance in Tweed Champ

Glad it worked out. I don't see much risk of premature tube failure. Enjoy! Steve Well the VVR3 continues to perform flawlessly! I am extremely satisfied with its performance. The one caveat is that I have already zapped my self twice reaching around behind the amp, contorting my arm to get to the ...

Re: VVR guidance in Tweed Champ

C3 and C4 are not filter caps. They are cathode bypass caps. The filter caps are C6, C7 and C8. You lift C6 - the one to the far right in the photo you posted. Wow! glad I asked!! ... that would have been be an interesting smoke show.. I think i'me good for now, I even know which is the positive en...
