Re: Badcat Making weird noises
Nope no redplating. I can check the bias for sure! I will try to get in contact with Badcat as well!

Badcat Making weird noises
So my friend purchased a used Badcat cub iir (which I have been unable to find schematics for, and I'm having trouble figuring out what is making all these noises. Note: he said it didn't used to hum so bad- it was shipped and then it started. First off I believe the most of the noise is in the prea...

Re: Help with transformers
Thanks, I'll have a look at those diagrams. Not to mention we'll cover transformers in physics in a few weeks I'm assuming as well.

Help with transformers
Ok, so after reading and thinking I understand transformers I realized I only very lightly understand them. Ok so take a power transformer for example. It has a primary and many secondaries I understand. In the case of a regular tube rectified amp it would have 120v primaries and 6.3v, 5v and around...

Re: Fender Champ Work
Mid resistor? And would I be able to add half a gain stage without the attenuation?

Re: Fender Champ Work
True you guys are talking sense into me! I'll have to hear the distortion, but a second switchable preamp tube could be fun, or maybe a push pull on the volume pot to bypass the tone stack. Who knows!?

Re: Fender Champ Work
I'll check the voltage before I do anything. What is normally a good range for the preamp/output on these small 5 watters? Hopefully since the OT was replaced they at least changed it with a multitap. I've heard using a princeton OT can increase clarity and bass so maybe I'll try that out. Maybe I'l...

Re: Fender Champ Work
Yeah I actually read that article, I think that schematic is for the Champ 2 though which uses a different tube compliment as well as a solid state rectifier. Will probably raise the preamp plate voltage like he suggests with the resistor, and replace the output tube, as it may be original.

Re: Fender Champ Work
No unfortunately not a super champ just a regular spec one with the blackface aesthetics!
And I suppose I shouldn't put the cart before the horse!

Fender Champ Work
Hey so just picked up a 1981 Rivera era Champ for cheap after I sold my bass (hasn't arrived yet just bought). The insides look to have been worked on a bit. I think I see some orange drops in there, resistors are all carbon comp. The OT has been replaced, but I'm not too sure with what. Are there a...

Help me understand centertapping!
So I'm fairly new to all this. No real world building a tube amp experience yet, but in my reading and research I've seen this term come up a lot. The references so far have been filament wiring by running twisted wires from socket to socket using a grounded center tap or a pair of 100 Ohm resistors...

Treble Pot on Vibrolux Reissue
http://support.fender.com/schematics/guitar_amplifiers/Custom_Vibrolux_Reverb_schematic.pdf That is the schematic for the amp. It is a friend and with the treble pot completely counterclockwise you could jiggle the pot and it would go to full treble, so I assumed it was a bad ground connection at th...

Re: First amp build maybe?
I'm thinking about the classictone 18W set. Seems like a great price, and I've seen some praise for them. Anyone with direct experience?
