Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra

Ive been at this alongtime also and just to believe or agree with something and its not there tone wise is just being a follower. The Chupacabra sounds interesting.I believe and have said this before that van halen's plexi was modded due to the old van halen II studio photo showing the back of Eds pl...

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra

Each van halen album sounds different.VH1(first album)is the most aggressive and brown then the rest of the recordings.VH1 is the sound that most guitarist are looking for. When the first album was releast in 1978,that album blew people's minds(sound and playing).

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra

I listened to the clip listed above and it sounds good, but it needs more edge- gain for the early van halen sound.I use my ears I dont need to ask anybody. There are ISO van halen tracks on youtube(guitar only)from the original recordings, check out the early recordings(songs) like running with the d...

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra

Marshall amps in general.Ive been at this over 35 years tried many late 60s plexi's and 70s superleads and none at full volume had that type of tone that van halen had.Ive also have tried them on a variac lowering the voltage and still didnt have that type of tone.

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra

Very true, but with the technology today there are tube amp out there that can achieve that sound. One amp in mind is the Fryette Deliverance, with the correct guitar, pickup, strings, effects, speakers(celestion greenbacks 25 watt) and especially reverb.

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra

Eds plexi was modified,I have old studio photos from the recording of Van halen II and you can see a pot in back of Eds plexi. After listening to that clip(listed above) which sounds good it just lacks the crunch/edge that you hear on van halen 1 first album tone.Ive tried numerous late 60s plexi's a...
