Re: New tubes - Alessandro
OK, so what exactly is your point here? Offended because of a different experience than yours? Kinda sounds like it... Bottom line is this: my point to WB was to be careful, research it and know there are alternatives. Thanks for the history lesson. Hi CW, Was I offended? Nope. I didn't intend to s...

Take a look at Jim McShanes site or the Tube Asylum and his recent notes on the QC problems he's had with recent bulk purchases, it...

Re: New tubes - Alessandro
WingoBoingo, You might want to rethink that KT77 buy. I bought a pair of those when they first came out, the JJ...and they were pure crap. I sent them back. JJ had pin dia problems, and as of last week or so, that issue, along with QC, popped up again at another tube forum. I'm using the new Genelex...

Watkins Dominator
Well, it's all finished and running like a monster! The tube set-up is a pair of old orig TungSol 5881, NOS Sylvania GZ34, RCA long black-plate 12AX7 and a NOS Amperex EF86. Holy crap!!! This is the quietest amp I own now. I copied the old Allen Organ Co. grounding scheme by running a brass tube acr...

50's Magnavox
Don't expect that to run well with a guitar as-is.
You have to modify it to make it sound good.

50's Magnavox
I have that very amp in a stone stock 1958 Magnavox console sitting in my living room. We listen to it almost every day. It has a Corado turntable and a really nice AM/FM radio. The furniture is beautiful. Speakers are a pair of P12R like AlNiCo's. One of the nicest radios I've heard! Too bad you do...

Taylors WD clone build
Ok..here's the scoop on the amp: Taylor is building this beautiful cab for me. Circuit is basically a Dr. Z Route 66 from lots of NOS parts laying around. I heard these were very nice sounding and simple circuits. '58 OPT will push NOS GE 6L6GB blackplates. PT is new Weber made. NOS Amperex EF86 for...
