Re: crosstalk, coupling, bleeding whatever it's called....
Heres a photo of it. I already removed the master volume. The MV was where the cut control (last pot on right) was. I had removed the cut control altogether. I grounded the MV control to the back of the pot. The main reason for the master volume install was to to reduce hiss from the effects loop th...

That express does look good, wish they had it for MAC.

Here is the area in question, you can see where the MV is added.

Re: Layout/Schematic drawing software
I like EAGLE. It also will layout PCB's from your schematics. Not the easiest to use, especially when making your own part libraries. But worth the learning investment.

crosstalk, coupling, bleeding whatever it's called....
I have built myself a rocket/zwreck amp. I recently installed a 1M master volume from the treble wiper to ground, then the MV wiper to the 220k/220k voltage divider b4 the phase inverter input cap. When the MV is turned to zero I get quite a bit of signal leaking into the phase inverter. The problem...

Re: another tubescreamer clone
Thanks for posting the pics. Good quality pics. Good part quality and you've got what looks like a tight, manufacturable build. I like the way you took the time to layout the pcb so that it directly mates to the housing. Nice. You mentioned different caps. What kind of improvement do you hear with ...

Re: another tubescreamer clone
Looks like a nice pedal. We're builders, so you should discuss your circuit and what's good and different about it. What's with the secrecy? Some guy who uses it works at a amplifier company that can't be mentioned? Huh? I didn't know companies fired their employees for using pedals. I don't like t...

Re: another tubescreamer clone
I can build it just about any way, but standard I make it with the less/more 1M drive control and the keely mod. I got hold of some nichicon .18u film caps to replace the usual tantalums. I really sounds good. I gave a few to some guitarists I know and they now use it as their main overdrive pedal. ...

Re: Working on an old Ampeg SVT
Turns out to be the pot. I dug up the old one, put it back in and it worked. A bit scratchy and hard to turn, but it works. The Alpha pot that didnt work jumped from 1 ohm fully ccw to 200 ohms with only a slight cw turn. That instant jump of 199 ohms was the culprit. I took the pot apart and you ca...

Re: Working on an old Ampeg SVT
After revisiting "Chapter1:Fundamentals of amplification" I see where my thinking was flawed. In order for that tube to go into cutoff the grid would have to be more negative than the catode is biased. My cathode is biased at about 6vdc, so i'd need too be a lot more negative than -6vdc at the grid ...

Re: Working on an old Ampeg SVT
I might have to do that. When I place my voltmeter on the grid to ground the problem dissapears too. How would I know the tube has gone into cutoff? Wouldn't the cathode voltage go to zero?

Working on an old Ampeg SVT
I have replaced the volume pots in a '78 SVT (among other things) and stumbled upon a little issue. When the volume pot is turned about 95% CCW towards the the lowest volume setting a loud pop comes from the speaker. It also pops when leaving this 5% range. In looking at the schematic I notice that ...
