Re: Triangle Cabs

The customer says they sound better than their old cabinets. Was happy about that.

Yea, the 3rd Power Amp is where he got he idea from.

Re: Triangle Cabs

Yes they are equilateral triangles and I did have to build a sled to cut the miters. I thought the same, access to the amps are a little low. He found out the same during his first gig with them. He is now thinking about bases for them.....maybe a trapezoid. It was a fun build after it was said and ...

Triangle Cabs

My latest project. I was consigned to build two triangle cabs to house a bass amp with a 15 inch driver and a guitar amp with a 12 inch driver. What do you think?

Re: Oak Head and Speaker Cab

AmpExplorer,

I used a Weber Signature Series 12 inch. I can only compare this cab with a "Poor Man's Cherry" Alder Combo amp with the same speaker. I would say that the Oak sounds just a hair bit brighter.

Re: Oak Head and Speaker Cab

John,

Yes, I used RJs Single End Eagle design and added a tone pot. Only my second build.

Re: Fried Power Tranny

Ok, After going back over it I found a wrong Ohm resister. Still tweaking the tone control.

Re: Fried Power Tranny

After setting he project down for a while, because of work getting in the way, I tried the attenuator, It helped a little. I'm still not 100% happy with it. My multi-meter crapped out on me, as soon as get a new one I'll compare the voltages with the Eagle I built last year and copied for this proje...

Ok, new power transformer and new diodes and she is singing. It, however, is only clean at 1 anything more is very distorted. Any ideas?

Re: Fried Power Tranny

Jack, I found that two of the diodes were shorted. I'm guessing their voltage threshold was too low. I'll mount 1000 volt diodes this next go around. As far as the tubes, I do have them. As I understand the 6N6C is wired the same as a 6V6. I'm thinking the heaters on my 6H2N-EB are wired differently...

Re: Fried Power Tranny

Found a little time in my shop yesterday and completed the dim light that was recommended. Plugged up the Tranny with a 25 Watt lamp and sure enough it light up brightly. Lesson Learned the hard way.

Also pulled the diodes and found the problem.

Thanks to all that responded.

Re: Fried Power Tranny

I have attached a layout of the amp. Also, the picture of the bottom of the board was snapped before I completed the soldering. The blue leads are soldered to the board from pins 1 and 6 of the 6H2N tube to the cap/resisters and from pin 5 of the 6N6C to the cap.

Re: Fried Power Tranny

Just googled the light limiter. I have all the items needed laying around in my shop. I'll build one before I go any further. Like I said I'm somewhat new to this so any ideas like this is appreciated.

Fried Tranny

Pulled transformer. Tube voltage is showing good, it's the AC side that's showing only 14 volts AC.
