Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.

If your going to gig this amp youll probably want to transport it in a flight case. The wood would take a beating. You can pick it up from the lips on the front valance and back.

Re: Trainwreck power supply/filter cap board

I don't see why you couldn't make a board or chassis mount them but really the Mallory or modern equivalent Spurge Atom cap stack fit pretty snug in a 2" tall chassis. Glue them in there and wire them up with solid core wire they aint going anywhere. I really don't know what all the fuss is about wh...

Re: How stable can you get an Express?

That sounds about right stable where the amp sounds best. Id say Vol pot ground looks wonky at the wiper and you over did the solder at the buss bar at that point. Ken bent the wiper lug over and soldered directly to the pot. Id reflow all the connection in the tone stack and pots. At fist glance it...

Re: How stable can you get an Express?

My mind was a bit blown when you said amp was stable with all controls maxed on first try.
Lets see some guts? Maybe you got a cold joint somewhere.

Re: AC10 repro chassis?

Off topic but did VOX ever use a Radio Spares El84 output transfomer for a AC10 or hopefully a EF86buid? Wanna build a EF 86 and have one of Steves repo el84s.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.

Id expect more power amp overdrive with a lower 260v winding. It would change the tone. Get a good attenuator.

Re: Holy Aggressive!!!!

I can get to about 2oclock on vol with eq/presence at noonish and get a clean tone by rolling off the vol and strumming softly with my express.

According to my measurements, they are both reading 6.4 K Primary impedance using Marstran.com method
How old are your red series? Hopefully they have always been 6k6 all along.

Re: Aluminum faceplates WTB

Acquire aluminum, brush your aluminum, make faceplate out of your newly brushed aluminum. :D McMaster sells 2" X 24" strips that are convenient to work with. I score and snap to length, don't even need a saw... How would one go about Screenprinting or inking the graphics? I like my stuff to look pr...

Re: pacific output trans

Thats interesting. Someone from this forum asked Pacific this question and they replied something along the lines of they built the transformers to spec from the line cards and after built the Impedances showed different than the 6k6, This is all 11415 part numbers or equivalent including Kens Pacif...
