Fender TRRI 65' V2 Trouble
Oh great TAG gurus, please help! A 65 TRRI came in for repair and the guy said that it was distorting too early. I did the standard of checking all caps and resistors, and lifting ends of ones that were reading bad in situ and everything checked out just fine. While scoping the signal and referencin...

Re: Yba-4 V2B
The YBA-4 is just a YBA-1 as a combo. The circuit was constantly being tweaked, sometimes not matching the schematic that was included with the amp. The best reference (and my favorite circuit) is the original schematic from 1966. I got a YBA-4 from the late 70's for a song and by then the circuit h...

Re: Half triode question...
I had one of these for a while and it was plenty loud. I love the traynors, built like tanks. My bet's on the output tubes.

a beautiful marriage...
Tonight i finished a project i've had on the books for a while. I used RJ's layout for a rockster 66 up unitl after the PI and then i used my pre-existing Plexi/Traynor power section and a Lar/Mar MV. For tubes i have a telefunken in V!, bugleboy in v2 and a mullard in v3 (all 12ax7s). For power tub...

Re: Basic recording setup
Craigslist is great for finding a reasonably priced ($50-60) SM-57 as well as mic cable and mic stand. Those mics are bulletproof and theres enough floating around that it makes it hard to justify $100 on a new one at GC(just make sure it works). If you're only going to be recording a single tracks ...

Re: advice on pulling the trigger on tubes
Thanks for the advice guys! It's easy to become overly excited the first time you walk into a basement filled with tubes (literally!) We both own tube testers and I'm letting him sit on them for at least a few weeks before I consider getting back in touch with him. I guess I better work on my poker ...

advice on pulling the trigger on tubes
Hi guys, I've been a bit of a lurker here for a bit and have benefited from the massive amount of knowledge here but I need some serious TAG advice. A recent craigslist buy of nos and used pre-amp tubes (aka rca blackplate 12ax7 and telefunken 12_7 tubes) has led me to a box of Western-Union red bas...

Re: Twin cracklin'
Do the chopstick test on the wiring on the sockets, I just had one that had a PI whose cathode connection was never soldered
