Re: amp out of tube radio
Nice looking chassis! The secret to doing waterslide decals is the surface should be clean, dry and smooth. You don't want to soak the decal too long or it will take the glue off the back. I leave my decals in warm water for about 10 seconds, then take it out and lay it on a paper towel to absorb e...

Re: Name Your Tool Fantasy
Hmmm, this kinda tough. Maybe tools that automatically return to where they are supposed to be instead of staying in the last place I used them? As far as the IEC cutouts I do mine in about 30 seconds. This only works on aluminum chassis' though. I use a router with a 3mm bit, an MDF template, and a...

Re: The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
I use a switch, 2.2uf - no cap - 10uf, it works great. Just get a mini toggle, on-off-on type. middle tag goes to ground, one cap on each outside tag (watch the polarity with electrolytics), run both caps to the upstream side of Kr.

Re: First Build, 2 really basic questions (likely more to come!)
Good choice on the ampmaker kit, Barry is a really decent guy and puts together some really nice kits. As far as soldering goes there is nothing like practice, grab some vero board and cheap components and practice. Myself, i do my resistors first, then caps, followed by flying leads and then socket...

Re: Epi Valve Jr Rebuild Help
10 volts isn't going to make a difference you can hear. I use toroids for my builds now, got some 0-260v + 0-6.3 v that i love, less buzz, don't even get warm, and cheaper than Hammond.

Re: Epi Valve Jr Rebuild Help
have you joined sewatt.com yet? they have the voxy schematics that the watts boards are based on. The first amp I worked on was an EVJ V3 with the voxy mods (mostly), the bitmo trio, and the nfb-c3 out-c3 in switch. Since then i design and build all my own amps, but i still have that very first EVJ....

Re: question for 10thTx about his 56T build
I was talking about the 56T, nice amp. Now, I was wondering if you have some time free to help me with a schematic and layout? I know its a lot to ask but I admire your skills with ExpressSCH, I still haven't quite got my head around that program yet. I have a .gif of the schematic i am using but i ...

Thank you mon ami, so there are no electrolytics on the tremolo? Love your amp by the way, great tone and an elegant design.

question for 10thTx about his 56T build
10thTx,
I was going to use some of your ideas in a build and i had a few questions. On the one tube reverb are the pots linear or log, and on the 1/2 tube tremolo you have used before what are the voltages of the caps? Thanks!
