Hi Structo, thanks for the reply.
Bad cap sounds reasonable. None of the 3 amps have standby switches and they are all using 5Y3's.
Still not really sure where to go from here. Add a standby switch?

Ghia Clone Noise On Powerup
Hey guys, I have built 3 Ghia clones two for friends and one for myself. I am using a layout I drew that's on a board small enough to fin in the Hammond chassis. The first one powered up fine the first time and has ever since. The second and third both, on initial power up and one or two other times...

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Ya, I think I will keep the rectifier the same but try a 5751 in the pre amp section like the stock amp.

Re: Wreck/Rocket
Ok, that's what I thought. I guess I'll just have a look at the rocket info then.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Wreck/Rocket
I may be a little late to the party, but it there a layout/schematic for these Zwreck style amps? I see several people building them, but have yet to see what they are building them off of.
Thanks!

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Well, I swapped the stock tunes other than the rectifier and man did that help! I thought it sounded good before, but now it sounds great! The noise mentioned before is gone and the amp is louder. I also added in the cut switch which IMO is a must. I still need to take voltage readings. Do you think...

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Thanks Mark and Bill. I will take voltage readings asap and post. I was too busy playing last night  I agree, it could be a tube. Just running the originals right now. I will try to reflow my joints, but its just so packed in there I hate the thought of tearing it apart. I'll post those voltage...

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Alright, I swapped the OT leads and fixed the conjunctive filter. Fired right up and boy is it loud! I have a couple of questions. 1. Would adding a pot in place of the NFB 3.3M resistor allow me to change the voicing/characteristics of the amp? 2. Every few minutes a fairly loud bit of noise shows ...

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Thanks Mark!
I will do exactly that this evening. Fix the CF first then if need be swap the OT leads.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Thanks for the reply! I will try that this evening. I just realized I put the conjunctive filter in backwards. Would that make a difference? Should I put it in the correct way before trying to swap the OT leads? By putting it in backwards I mean the 5w resistor is connected to pin 7 of V4 and the ca...

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Well I completed the build.... But. I get signal and it is plenty loud, but there is this extremely loud high pitch signal that is constant. I haven't left it on for more than 10 seconds or so after the tubes warm up because I am afraid of damaging something. Can anyone help diagnose this high pitch...

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Thanks Mark, I have read your post about 100 times haha. Looks great by the way! I think I want to stick to the CG first. Then maybe try others later.
Ill post pics and give updates as I progress.

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Thanks Structo, any advice or tips on shrinking the Phoenix layout? I bought turret board material to build new ones but should I just try to squeeze it all onto the existing board?

Re: First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Also, can anyone explain why the tip of the speaker jack is connected to R18 and everything behind it?

First Post - Carmen Ghia Build
Hello all, I have been a long time reader of TAG and love it. I have built a handful of amps and have a fairly substantial amount of electronics experience. I am currently working on 3 AO-35 CG conversions for myself and a couple friends. I have ordered all the components for the Phoenix build and I...
